12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, dark, opaque black color with an eighth of a finger of caramel-colored head that completely dissolved away into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Tons of roasted malt and dark chocolate in the nose, with notes of coffee, caramel and a little smoke.

Taste: Tons of roasted malt, with some dark chocolate, but not as much as I was expecting, certainly not as much as other chocolate stouts that I’ve had. There’s some coffee notes as well, and some caramel-like sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Chewy and smooth, as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of5.9%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a pretty good stout, but not an excellent one, or even a really good one. I liked the roasted malt flavors, but I was a little disappointed in the amount of chocolate that was present. I expected more chocolate than was there. I’d certainly drink it again if offered, but I’m not going to go out and get it either, as there are much better chocolate stouts out there.

At home; 12 oz bottle - stout glass
A - poured out like motor oil, black, 1 finger tan head, settled, but remained, good lacing
S - Chocolate, sweet malt, nut, alcohol
T - Roasted grain, chocolate, alcohol and very mild bitter finish/aftertaste
F - Thick, coating, but slightly dry
O - When I first opened the bottle, I thought I would be drinking chocolate syrup, but as it settled and a bit of time passed, the chocolate aroma was not so distinct any longer; the chocolate was still there to taste, but it also competed with a very mild roast flavor, which was then quickly covered by a medium dry bitter. Not my favorite set of combinations.
