UFO Raspberry HefeweizenUFO Raspberry Hefeweizen

Brewed by:
Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall
Massachusetts, United States

Style: Fruit and Field Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We have added natural raspberry flavor to our UFO Hefeweizen to create this beer. Consistent with the hefeweizen style, this beer is unfiltered and cloudy with a solid foamy head. UFO Raspberry has a distinctive, hazy rose color. The scent of fresh raspberries hits the nose immediately, along with a subtle bready aroma from the wheat and yeast. The body is light and the unfiltered yeast provides a soft mouthfeel. The taste of the fruit compliments the beer nicely, neither overwhelms the other. There is a faint sweetness on the palate, which finishes cleanly in a semi-dry, tart finish.

A: Had a cherry 7up color with a small one finger head that fizzed out within seconds. I seriously could barely tell this was an unfiltered beer.

S: A sugary sweet raspberry smell with a light wheat and yeast compliment in the back.

T: Very interesting taste, I was judging what the taste was going to be based on appearance and smell to expect a strong raspberry flavor. Actually, the taste of raspberries was lighter than expected and mixed in with a our apple flavor as well. The main flavor was the wheat malts that made up the hefe.

M/D: A light beer that was very reminiscent of a soda. It was quite easy to drink and enjoyable but it sported a significant amount of carbonation which mixed in with the sugary smell and taste made it very much like a spiked soda.

pours very pretty ,cloudy orangy golden with a hint of a reddish hue, nice looking 1/2 inch head, briefly. fades quick and not much lacing
smells yeasty, raspberry jam, none of the perfume smell some cheap fruit beers exhibit.obvious but not overpowering.
first taste was impressive, nice raspberry and wheat malt finish, crisp, a little funk at the end. after a few sips it started to get boring, not enough happening, not enough 'beer' flavor
feels light, crisp, refreshing, some wheat maltiness but a little watery
overall this is a nice, refreshing raspberry beer pop for adults, not to sweet, very refreshing and at 4.8 abv it's sessionable, perfect for a daytime picnic or warm weather activity where the beer is not the focus but your refreshment of choice is beer

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours slightly hazy light shade of pinkish-red. The tint reminds me much of watered down strawberry Kool-Aid. There was about 1/4" of white soapy head but it dissipated quickly, leaving a white ring. No lacing.

S: The raspberries come forth to the nose in a soft sort of way. Again, a bit like Kool-aid, but the wheat definitely comes through beneath. There is also a bit of a wine aroma that drifts up as well.

T&M: The flavor of this struck me immediately of a dry strawberry wine. The raspberry flavoring is prominent but not alone. The unique wheat flavor underlies the fruit in a dry matrix. The carbonation is light in texture but abundant, giving the brew a light, sparkling mouthfeel. The finish is interesting - dry, quick and just a bit of light raspberry on the linger.

D: For me, a little of this goes a long way. Although interesting, and relatively enjoyable, there wasn't anything that was compelling me to consume with any fervor.

My wife's new favorite beer. I can't share her enthusiasm. It's a hazy red/orange color with a small head. Sweet, fruity aroma with a little grain. The raspberry flavor is there, but it tastes artificial. A little malt as well. This is an OK beer, but I think I'll stick to a plain hefe.

12oz brown bottle - no freshness date. Pours a cloudy (unfiltered), peachy-rose colored beer with a slightly pink tainted white head, with a settling thin lace.

Aroma is quite sharp with raspberry and suggestions of citrus - quite appealing actually.

Creamy and smooth on the palate with a light, fluffy body. The palate is immediately splashed with a tart citric character of fresh raspberries and a salty-like lime edge that melds with faint herbal flavors. Watery rind taste and consistency. Very dry and crisp on the palate, making it refreshing, thirst quenching and more-ish. Malt characters are pretty much non-existent, as are hop characters, with some wheat flavors / tannins forming a hint of doughy breadiness towards the finish. Raspberry flavors are not over-powering, but dominate the experience - as you'd expect.

Much better than the straight-up UFO Hefeweizen. Approachable, and easy drinking thanks to the use of raspberries, which brings some life to what would otherwise be a fairly pedestrian and boring American Wheat Ale.

This release also fills a gap in Harpoon's portfolio, so not only is this a fun release for fruit beer lovers, but it's a smart one.

It pours a cool cloudy peach color with a big foamy white head that makes sweet lace patterns on my hefeweizen glass. Perfume like raspberry hits the nose as the bottle is opened. The flavor and body were very light and thin. The flavor has some tart raspberry with hints of lemon and melon. The palate is to light and thin with some light fizzy carbonation. The finish is abrupt and leaves me wanting something more. Overall it has a good taste but lacks depth and body.

The beer has a slight reddish hue the white head dissipated very quickly, almost like soda. The smell is of raspberry booth sweet and tart. This beer starts sweet and finishes refreshingly tart. The tart finish separates this from most typical soda beers, it makes it refreshing and nice.

My girlfriend LOVES this beer. So, I tried it.

Pours a light straw color with a light, bud-like head that rapidly comes and goes. Huge carbonation. Big fat bubbles. Smells like...raspberries. That's about it, maybe a hint of wheat but not much to notice. Taste is, again, of raspberries and not much else except for a funky skunky taste in the finish. It's like drinking raspberry seltzer water/beer. Very watery and very carbonated. I couldn't finish this beer, not even close. I had to hand it off to my girlfriend who gladly accepted. I'll pass. This is one beer that is safe in the fridge from me stealing from her.

12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date jet printed on the glass.

A- Pale orangey-rose colored brew, hazed from the wheat and thin sediment in the bottle. Good solid off white froth subsides to a thin but sticky lace.

S- Smell of fresh raspberry juice, spicy / bready wheat and a neutral yeast.

T&M- Harpoon nailed the carbonation on this one, smooth and crisp in a fluffy moderate body. Quick mildly tart shot of raspberry flavor, faint spice of fermented wheat. Hops are barely noticeable which is to style, just enough. Touch more of a raspberry flavor melds well with a bready wheat malt in the semi-dry finish.

D- I certainly could not make a session out of this beer, but that is only because I am not into fruit beers. This will be around in my fridge through the spring and summer as an alternative, guest pleaser and to pair with food. I could easily see cooking with this in all sorts of way as well; salads, beer braised chicken quarters or even a lean medium rare pork loin.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Amber color with a pinkish tint. Head was a good three to four fingers and was white was a pint tint. Head lasted a short period of about 1 minute, leaving about one finger of head left with almost no lacing on the glass.

Smell: Raspberries and wheat give off a good aroma that is strong but not over powering.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very smooth light bodied feel that I have come to expect from good unfiltered Hefenweizens. Taste is that of a really good Hefenweizen with a strong raspberry taste up front. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall: Very enjoyable beer! I would not go to say it is now a favorite of mine, but I feel it deserves credit were due. I will not argue at all if someone were to offer me one.

Poured a bubbly golden with an off-white, frothy head. Looks pretty good in the glass. Smell was of tart fruit, raspberry, as advertised, with a soft clove-like aroma. Taste was really dry and acidic for me, due to the raspberries, no less. Just a subtle hint of the crisp wheat malt, but the tartness really overpowered it. Mouthfeel was light and quickly dissipated across the palate. Fairly easy to drink, if you can get past the tartness. Not a bad beer, just not one of my faves.

L: Hazy pink tinted raspberry color under a thin white foam collar.
S: You can smell the raspberries from several feet away.
T: This has a big raspberry palate with a balance of sweet and tart over light bread. The raspberry masks the traditional hefeweizen flavors but the banana is in the back providing balance.
F: Medium to medium full body, a touch of tartness from the raspberries.
O: This captures the raspberryness without coming across like Bartles and james or some kind of pop wine. Light sweetness but not cloying.

12 oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a hefe glass.

pours a cloudy grapefruit color with some creamy retentive pure white head. has some nice lace. little hues of pink were visible in the head off of the pour.

the aroma is almost all tart rasberry. hardly any hefe characteristics noticable. my girlfriend enjoys the aroma very much. kinda reminds me of some sort of wine cooler.

a slightly better balance of things in the taste, but still very one sided to the tart, almost sour rasberry. the rasberry does not seem too artificial tasting like you find in most fruit beers. some light pilsner malts come into play but in the finish it goes back to the tart rasberry.

light body, ample carbonation. goes down smooth and easy. a little watery at times.

pretty good drinkability, but the rasberry taste gets a little old after awhile. i would have like to seen a little more hefe characteristics come through. i prolly wouldnt buy this again, but it was nice to try.

Hazy orange color with a small head that fizzes away quickly.

Low smell of talc and raspberry, a bit of yeasty schmootz.

Watered down, sodaesque flavor of sweet fruit, a bit tart, could be raspberry, could easily be strawberry. Slightly powdery, reminiscent of baby aspirin. I think they forgot to add the wheat.

Watery mouthfeel upfront, finishes dry.

This is just not a fruit beer, nor a hefe weizen, nor tasty. It's like fruit juice, a sweet drink for non beer drinkers who find themselves in a beer bar.

I will never drink one of these again.
