UFO Raspberry HefeweizenUFO Raspberry Hefeweizen

Brewed by:
Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall
Massachusetts, United States

Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We have added natural raspberry flavor to our UFO Hefeweizen to create this beer. Consistent with the hefeweizen style, this beer is unfiltered and cloudy with a solid foamy head. UFO Raspberry has a distinctive, hazy rose color. The scent of fresh raspberries hits the nose immediately, along with a subtle bready aroma from the wheat and yeast. The body is light and the unfiltered yeast provides a soft mouthfeel. The taste of the fruit compliments the beer nicely, neither overwhelms the other. There is a faint sweetness on the palate, which finishes cleanly in a semi-dry, tart finish.

This has become a go to summer beer for me. It has just an amazing flavor and the raspberries give the Hefeweizen that extra flavor. I just started buying the UFO sample pack last year that includes their Hefeweizen, Pale Ale and White Ale. This was a summer staple for me last year after replacing the Sam Adams Summer Ale that as been on a steady decline for the past few years.

This beer is so perfect. It does not have an overbearing fruity taste, though the hint of raspberries makes this a great hefeweizen. These beers went down smooth, like drinking flavored water that will truely intoxicate the mind and body, without a watered down flavor of many cheap beers. Without a doubt i could easily sit down for a night and put back a twelve pack.

This is one adventure i am glad i went on, when first trying this i was skeptical, after trying many other fruit flavored beers and being highly disappointed, this was the saving grace for flavored beer.

If you like Abita Purple Haze, this blows that RIGHT out of the water! Super amazing fresh raspberry smell and ending flavor, not too sweet, still tastes like a beer, not a wine cooler. I AM a big fan of fruiting the beer, and this is how it's done well. Very pleased. I got this as a single, so really I just picked it up for the raspberry. Once I opened it, I took a second look at the bottle and realized it was Harpoon. No wonder it's amazing.

The first time I ever tried this beer was on tap at the tasting room in Vermont at the Harpoon brewery, and I fell in love. This beer is also seasonal so when I come across it in bottles I stock up.

The color of this beer is a nice pinkish red, and the nose delivers a light raspberry smell. I am able to drink a 6 pack of these and be perfectly content. It is not a beer that I tire of drinking easily. They are great on a hot summer day. The fruit complements the base beer very nicely. The ABV is just right. I enjoy regular UFO, but I will definitely choose this instead anytime.

Poured into a pint glass at the local 'Flying Saucer'

A: Cloudy ruby red/rose color. Good solid off white head with a thin but sticky lace.

S: Smell of fresh raspberries. Some mild spice.

T&M: Smooth and Crisp! Mild tart shot of raspberry flavor, faint spices and hops are barely noticeable.

If you like raspberry or berry flavors, this is the best I have had and I've tried many fruit flavored beers. This is the best raspberry hands down. Probably better on tap than in the bottle, but the fresher the better nonetheless.

This beer is by far my favorite to drink; mostly in the summer but I love to relax with a couple pints in the winter as well. It doesn't have a fake raspberry flavor to it and goes down smooth. Sitting on the back porch outside in the sun is my favorite time to enjoy the lightly flavored raspberry and the smooth Hefeweizen beer!

Pours a hazy yellow with maybe a slight blush of pink, two fingers of light foam that disappears very quickly. Aroma is strongly that of the raspberries promised on the label! Same goes for the taste, very fruit forward. Near perfect carbonation with no vile aftertaste! I talked my distributor into selling me this as a single, I'm going back tomorrow for the other 5!

On draft at a local and decided to try, glad I did. Great raspberry smell, not overbearing raspberry taste. A little sweet, but overall very easy to drink.

L: Hazy pink tinted raspberry color under a thin white foam collar.
S: You can smell the raspberries from several feet away.
T: This has a big raspberry palate with a balance of sweet and tart over light bread. The raspberry masks the traditional hefeweizen flavors but the banana is in the back providing balance.
F: Medium to medium full body, a touch of tartness from the raspberries.
O: This captures the raspberryness without coming across like Bartles and james or some kind of pop wine. Light sweetness but not cloying.

On-tap at paradise by the slice
It had a nice rose color body with a 2" head that layed down quickly. The smell was of tart raspberries and some wheat. The taste was the same as the smell, nice raspberries and wheat on the back of the tongue. Mouth feel was great and a very drinkable beer.

a-reddish gold, cloudy...nice lasting head. Nice lacing on the glass.

s-sour raspberry smells, mild mild citrus that adds a crisp smell to the glass.

t-Berry flavours dominate this beer. Def refreshing....

m-very nice. light but def fits the abv.

overall I loved this beer. I am buying more of this until it's gone for the season. Almost the perfect summertime beer.

A - Pours a cloudy pink-orange with a small-moderate, not overly impressive head.

S - The aroma is outstanding - fresh, juicy raspberries all over the place. Maybe a slight undertone of something orange-like, and grass-like, but mostly this is raspberries.

T - Wheaty, bready, grainy malt and tart raspberries. Maybe some hops in the back for bitterness... maybe not. There's a bit of sweetness, but it's slight as there isn't a heavy bitterness to balance out.

M - Seltzer-like. Light and quite fizzy, but with enough body to avoid wateriness.

D - Overall, a very nice fruit beer - maybe the best non-sour one I've had. I like how this is very low on the bitterness scale, and really accents the fruit.

Got this one from the Variety 12 pack...

Poured into tall chilled glass

A: Poured a strawberry blonde color, a little murky and unfiltered looking.... Very nice head and good lacing

S: Raspberry Raspberry Raspberry... Yummy... A hint of wheat

T: Has a raspberry seltzer water taste, light in taste and very little after taste.... Very nice summer evening beer

M: Feels very light in the mouth, very Hefeweizen..

D: A very drinkable brew for the summer... I tend to like blueberry fruit beers more, but this it the best Raspberry beer I've had... Give it a try on a hot summer evening...

Bought this in Buffalo, and poured it into a pilsner glass.

A - looks almost like a cooler, not a beer. It has some carbonation, no head to speak of - it doesn't stay long.

S - aggressive raspberry aroma makes you think this beer will be way too sweet, however, this is not the case.

T - light raspberry flavor, a refreshing, delicious beer. It's not too sweet at all.

M - perfect amount of carbonation, it's crisp, doesn't stick around too long in the mouth.

D - excellent. could drink these pops all night. The GF really enjoyed this beer. Too bad we only got one sample bottle.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Amber color with a pinkish tint. Head was a good three to four fingers and was white was a pint tint. Head lasted a short period of about 1 minute, leaving about one finger of head left with almost no lacing on the glass.

Smell: Raspberries and wheat give off a good aroma that is strong but not over powering.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very smooth light bodied feel that I have come to expect from good unfiltered Hefenweizens. Taste is that of a really good Hefenweizen with a strong raspberry taste up front. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall: Very enjoyable beer! I would not go to say it is now a favorite of mine, but I feel it deserves credit were due. I will not argue at all if someone were to offer me one.

pours a cloudy peach / pink color with a three finger light pinkish head with some lacing to the finish. nice raspberry aroma hit you even as you pour it. nice tartness to the taste. mouthfeel was crisp, light, refreshing, dry. i was very leery about trying this beer but found it very good. i think for a summer time refresher it would be just great and i really liked the way it looked in the glass.

Appearance: Dark amber, faint pink; about a finger and a half head, cloudy

Smell: A sweet raspberry malt that just invites you right in to drink it.

Taste: All I can say is mmm, this beer really hits the spot on the fruit beer spectrum. It has a delicious raspberry taste that I cant seem to get enough of. Very sweet and has a hint of citrus in the background. Almost doesn't taste like beer, but its too good to complain about.

Mouthfeel: smooth and silky on the tongue, has a nice tingle to it, the hops make a nice subtle appearance to the surface

Drinkability: Just an all around great beer. Any friend I introduce it to proceeds to tell me that they are going to go pick some up...right then. Probably best on a hot summer day, but I think I could drink this beer anytime, all the time. Its that delicious and sweet.

This beer pours a nice red color, like raspberries as expected. The aroma is strong and full of raspberry aroma. There's not much to indicate that it's a hefeweizen. Taste is a different matter though as it starts to blossom as a hefeweizen with strong raspberry overtones. The flavor is well balanced though and doesn't have the consistency of cough syrup or nothing like that. Not too sweet either.

When poured into a glass, it is golden in color typical of a wheat beer. This one however wasn't as cloudy as other beers but more light golden, with an orange tint.
The head on it was small, but the smell of the beer had a strong raspberry aroma to it.
The mouthfeel was light and mildly fruity, with a mild raspberry aftertaste. I feel as though the raspberry worked well with the wheat flavors. I very much enjoyed this beer and would love to find it on draft.

This is a different beast from the standard UFO. The raspberries are undoubtedly the lead role on this beer's palate.

A: Much like the stanard UFO, a little less cloudy, and red, from the raspberries.

S: Holy strawberries. When I poured this stuff, my friend told me he could smell it from two seats over from me. It's literally almost too much, key word being almost.

T: The smell is backed up by a powerful berry taste. The wheat flavor is still there, but quite subdued. They hopped it up a little bit do it could compete with the berries, which I like.

M: Much more carbonated than the standard UFO, this stuff drinks almost like a soda in some ways, but still retains an unfiltered mouthfeel.

D: Goes down easy, but doesn't sit in the stomach as well as other beers.

Overall, I'm definitely interested in buying a 6-pack of this stuff if I can find it. This is a great fruit beer, period.

Pours a hazy grapefruit like color with some visible carbonation and a thick three finger head which disapates to a skim with very little lacing. The aroma is fanstastic, it hits you as soon as you open the bottle. The smell of raspberries and flowers hits your nose. The taste is very good also, the taste is a wheat backbone with a tart raspberry taste. The taste is like a real raspberry not artificial and super sweet. The carbonation is moderate and creamy. Overall on a hot day on your porch you could make this a great session beer. A great aroma and a smooth taste make this a great beer.

Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a UFO hefeweizen glass. Bottle says enjoy by 12/15/13...bought it mid-march 14. Whatever, here we go...

A: Cloudy raspberry hued amber color. A little head from the pour, quickly receded to a fizzy ring at glass edge, no lace.

S: Raspberries, duh! Cannot detect the typical aromas of hefeweizen...but the raspberries, wow, it just smells awesome. Also some hints of citrus, but not distinct.

T: Raspberries dominate the flavors, slightly sour too. Toward the end the typical here characters come in, but not distinctly. Just a nice malty complement to the finish. I was hoping to see more of the typical clove and spice phenols in the flavor, but the beer is so refreshing in the taste, that they really aren't missed.

M: Medium mouthfeel with lots of carbonation, with a sharpish bite. There is an acidic character on the palate as well.

O: This is a great raspberry beer. The sour character makes this really refreshing, and enjoyable. This might be an awesome complement to a late breakfast or even brunch, or for a lazy Saturday afternoon session. Recommended!

12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date jet printed on the glass.

A- Pale orangey-rose colored brew, hazed from the wheat and thin sediment in the bottle. Good solid off white froth subsides to a thin but sticky lace.

S- Smell of fresh raspberry juice, spicy / bready wheat and a neutral yeast.

T&M- Harpoon nailed the carbonation on this one, smooth and crisp in a fluffy moderate body. Quick mildly tart shot of raspberry flavor, faint spice of fermented wheat. Hops are barely noticeable which is to style, just enough. Touch more of a raspberry flavor melds well with a bready wheat malt in the semi-dry finish.

D- I certainly could not make a session out of this beer, but that is only because I am not into fruit beers. This will be around in my fridge through the spring and summer as an alternative, guest pleaser and to pair with food. I could easily see cooking with this in all sorts of way as well; salads, beer braised chicken quarters or even a lean medium rare pork loin.

If you like fruity beers, this would be a great one for you to try!!! Great taste, aroma and definitely a nice smooth drink!!! Enjoy!!!

Wow. This one jumped off the page at me.

Poured into a pint glass. Was a little too aggressive with the pour and got a huge head. Nice off red color with a fluffy white head with lacing that stuck around.

Smell - I actually thought it would smell more like raspberries than it did but it was balanced out very nicely not to overpower you. There was a hint but not overwhelming.

Taste - Just the opposite there was more raspberry than the smell indicated, stopping just short of being too much. Very refreshing and balanced between the beer and the raspberry.
Very well balanced, almost sneaky. No hop bite that I could detect.

Mouthfeel was probably the main reason I liked it. Crisp, smooth, it went with a slickness. Perfect carbonation. The strongest point of the beer.

Drinkablility would depend. On a hot summer day this would be an A+++. I could see reaching for one after another. Other than that I think one would be enough and maybe more as a novelty but I think it would always be enjoyable.

I know that most don't like fruit beers but this one is worth the try. I loved it, was surprised by it and will have it again.
