Poured from a 12 oz bottle with a 2018 BB date. $1.69 at Tigermart.
Euro-hops dominate the aroma. The flavor partially follows but is less skunky and carries almost as much grain as hop flavor.
Feel: medium-light body; crisp and dry.
Overall: a solid version of the style that should appeal to fans of Heineken.

DATE: July 12, 2018... OCCASION: A beautiful evening ends with an easy drinker.... and The Room?!... GLASSWARE: Ommegang pokal...pours a crisp, fizzing two fingers of white clumpy head that settles to a soapy consistency... the body is golden as advertised, while champagne-like bubbles swirl... enticing... sweet bread malts and a tangy sharpness suggest bitterness is on the way... hay, lemon grass, and light tobacco is also present... first sip is bright but lagerish, with a dry finish and a bit of chewiness on its way... bubbly, oily though agreeable, and light-bodied... not distinguishable from other blonds, but that seems to be this beer's goal--fitting in... the dryness offers little oat or hay, but some fragrant perfume is released upon sipping... on the exhale, some pungent personality is exhausted--its graininess is clearest here, and though it doesn't venture into OE800 territory, it is noticeable ... Overall, this may ease the pleasant pain of Tommy Wiseau's disaster piece, but it will win no awards for itself...as samplers go, The Craic seems to be the only one requiring future attention...

Harpoon Brewery "House Golden"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "Enjoy By 13:29 01/15/18 270"
$2 @ Weis, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Clear yellow gold body. I can almost see my fingerprints through the glass. Fluffy bright white head. Pleasant aroma of grainy malts with just a hint of floral and grassy hops. Ahhh, the flavor is nice. Clean, grainy and lightly toasty malt is threaded through with floral, grassy, and lightly herbal hops with a touch of yeasty fruitiness thrown in (or is that from hops? It's almost orange-like). A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes mainly dry with some hops and a light note of mild toastiness remaining. It's not a fascinating or bold beer in any way, it's just a very nicely balanced and rounded basic golden ale. It's medium-light in body and gently crisp. Highly drinkable.

Harpoon House Golden purchased as part of a mixed case from a discount retailer in September, 2017.

This beer is possibly a throwback to some of the American and Canadian commercial ales (examples currently available are Yuengling Lord Chesterfield and Labatts 50). I'd prefer a bit more complexity with more malt body and hop aroma. The hop character is fairly simple, with minimal floral / fruity aroma so popular now.

Aroma is grainy. Flavor is beery, moderate light body and balancing bitterness. This is a good summer quencher with a reasonable alcohol content of 4.7.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a best by date of 11/15/17. Sampled on September 1, 2017.

It is a golden pour with a quick head and excellent clarity.

The aroma emits an array of toasted bread, biscuit, grass, floral, sweet malts, and cleanliness. Inviting for the summer.

The body is light to medium but creamy and smooth.

The taste is sweet and bready with a nice grassy and floral hop character. Mild dry finish. Easy to drink and enjoy.

Pours as you would expect - a clear, darker golden color with an inch of white foamy head. Falls quickly to a ring with some rafts and a decent cling to the glass.

Mild malt backdrop, floral and grassy hops, very mild lemony note.

The taste is pretty clean with a touch of a mineral taste. The malt is crackery, the hops mildly floral, slightly grassy, a bit of lemon and some peppery notes follow in the aftertaste.

It is a bit north of light bodied but not much. Serviceable, good beer for a gathering - good enough to just drink, not complicated enough to bother anybody.

This beer falls into the perfectly adequate beer category. Heavy on the fact that my immediate impression is that I just like the overall taste and feel of it. Easy drinking, serviceable, good beer for a gathering - good enough to just drink, certainly good for a mixed crowd. It's not complicated - straightforward brew that I enjoy.

a: extremely clear golden straw color with a large, 2 finger frothy white head

s: lemongrass, sweet grains, a hint of earthy hops and a huge bready malt backbone

t: follows the nose well. lemongrass, sweet grains and bready malt. a very faint sweet citrus in the background. crisp after taste

m: light body with a high level of carbonation

o: this is a really tasty blonde ale. great for the hot weather - not complicated and goes down easy (and fast). Nice example of the style

Things are certainly changing here in PA since we are now able to buy beer & wine in supermarkets. I recently found this one as a single at one of our local Giant Food Stores & I was curious to try it, but it was bottle-only on my visit, so it remains on my Wants list for CAN.

From the bottle: "Golden, classic, beloved, and the right combination of easy-drinking and drinking easy."; "This is one solid go-to beer; crisp and smooth with a dry finish. A real beer's beer."; "House Rules - Don't overthink it. - Love Beer. - Love Life. - That's it."

I Pop!ped the cap & began a moderate pour, kind of lackadaisical without being heavy-handed. This produced just under three fingers of dense, foamy, bone-white head that slowly fell away, leaving loads of lacing in its wake. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4), just not deep enough for me to bestow the coveted designation of "Gold". Sorry. Nose had a grassy, biscuity quality, like a Pilsner, which was interesting since this is an Ale. I would have sworn that it was a Pilsner Urquell! Mouthfeel was kind of thin and watery. The taste was much sweeter than the nose had led me to expect. It had a bready maltiness and not a lot in terms of a hop presence. Admittedly, it was marked as 26 IBUs, but the nose was misleading. Finish was semi-dry, but kind of a ho-hum beer in total. I could see this as a lawnmower beer on a hot, humid summer's day, but otherwise, it was kind of meh.
