Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a clear yellow colored body with a soft white lumpy head that lasts about a good three minutes. It leaves some lacing around the sides of the glass and it slides nicely down their sides as the beer goes down. The carbonation is slowly rising. The smell had some lemon and wheaty grains, basically balanced well. The taste was mostly sweet through the lemon and the wheaty grains, leaves you wanting more. The palate was light yet well balanced with a clean finish in this. This is a pretty sessionable beer. Overall, this makes actually a very good summer beer. I’ve had several of these before I decided to give a it a review so I could be as fair as possible. I would definitely have this again.

LOOK: Light
TASTE: Wheat, a bit too much for a summer beer.
FEEL: Thin, but a touch of CreamIness

A good summer beer…not too light. OK Flavor. Ellie's 7th Birthday party.

Pours a pale yellow.
Crisp and well balanced with a mild bready malt.
I sense a faint lemon/citrus flavor.
Just enough bitterness, a very good Kolsch.

Pint on draft in a standard pint glass at Rayo in Scarborough, Maine.

Appearance: Pours a golden straw with some slight haze. Little crown of white head. Some lacing left behind that disappears quickly.

Aroma: Not much to the nose. Some cereal grains and lemon.

Taste: Lemon, some floral hops, a little bread. Flavors become slightly more pronounced as it warms.

Mouthfeel: Pretty light, as expected.

Overall: The parade of very OK summer brews marches on with this quaffable but fairly pedestrian mainstay from the 'Poon. Decent companion to spicy Mexican chow; not much to it, but maybe there doesn't have to be.

Had with oysters on the half shell at B & G Oysters, Boston, Mass., on draft into stange. Not a particularly fine example of the style, but effective and enjoyable washing down oysters.

a fine bottle of beer, but it does very little for me in terms of bringing something new to the table. its a mildly sweet kolsch style that has hints of white sugar, lemongrass, and straw, but isn't particularly dynamic or flavorful as they go. a fine palate cleanser, and a nice looking brew with a really lacy white head, but the flavors don't live up to the aroma, and it ends up being a little bland. it also doesn't have the summer beer feel, despite very low abv, there seem to be some body to it, and carbonation is only middle of the road. it never gets to that next level of refreshment, even when ice cold. a little grassy hop thing in the finish, and a summery lemongrass element as well, but its not enough to make this interesting enough for me to want to drink more than one. I know what harpoon is capable of, I have been drinking their beer forever, but its the fall and winter seasonals I always seem to identify with much more than the warmer weather offerings for whatever reason.

Harpoon Summer Beer - Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall. Poured from the bottle into a becker pint glass, this brew's head is two fingers thick with web-like lacing, and a medium-light golden body.

Smells like very bright malts and earthy grains. Perhaps a touch of floral hops in the mix.

I taste much of the components described above, along with a mid-palate bite that goes away at the end of the swig. Clear and bright, overall.

The mouthfeel of this beer is crisp and refreshingly clean. A great summer choice indeed,

Overall, I'll give Harpoon Summer Beer - Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall a 4.25

Pours a slightly hazed dark yellow with a head that comes and then goes and doesn't lace the glass. The smell was full of mild citrus like lemon peel along with a bit of toasted malt. The taste was similar to the scent with a good amount of citrus in the beginning with a light but sweet finish. Rather clean. Not bad.

Kolsch style is my favorite summer beer (sorry- no umlaut). Kolsch is actually a cold-lagered ale. Kolsch should have a light, crisp, refreshing flavor. This year's Harpoon Summer Beer fits the bill. Clean, balanced flavor with no better or clinging after-taste. Not an exciting beer with a big hop wallop or strong dark-roasted malts, but it is a beer that is subtle and achieves a delicate balance and must be brewed with care. Thank you, Harpoon.
