Purchased this one as a single while in New Orleans. Best by date is 6/15/10, so should still be good.

A: Lighter in color, mostly yellow-orange. The head dies fast to a slight lace.

S: Not a whole lot here. Some faint citrus and honey-like sweetness, but otherwise nothin.

T: I got a little skunkiness at first, but this is followed by some grapefruitiness. There's a touch of pine too. The malts are fairly absent, but I do get a mild, grainy sweetness.

M: Light bodied. Finishes crisp and clean. Good carbonation.

D: Overall, a fairly lackluster IPA. I had heard a lot of decent things about it, but in the end I'm dissapointed. I may give it a try again, but will pass for now.

I don't know. What were the 'Bros' thinking. I like the amber hue in my glass, but the taste is rather skunky and harsh. I get the aroma of a E-IPA and taste but doesn't do it for me. Nicefluffy head. Fantastic lacing. But score for taste i must knock a few points off.

I sampled this beer in the North Train Station in Boston. Tried on draft but in a plastic cup the beer had a pale amber colour with some cloudiness that cleared quickly. The flavour seemed like that of a bit of a started IPA. The hop characters were lacking as well as the fullness of flavour. The redeeming qualities of this beer are the nuttiness, yeast, and malt flavours that shine through in the profile. This beer would be a decent intro IPA for the inexperienced beer drinker. Unlike a full bodied IPA I could enjoy this as a session beer.

Pale amber color. This beer is very crisp. Too crisp for an IPA in my opinion. I didn't appreciate the wateriness. The aftertaste was also not as pleasant as I had hoped. It's very dry and leaves a bitter bite on the back of the tongue. The package store I work at sells a lot of this, so I thought it would be better. The hops are there (piney), but I prefer a better malt backbone. I'll wait till I see this on draft to try it again.

A golden amber color, with a thin, lacy head with incomplete coverage of the top of the beer.

The nice floral hop character in the nose. Some sweet notes of caramel are there as well.

The taste is a let-down, unfortunately. Not much complexity at the beginning before a strong lingering hop bitterness sets in. I keep swishing it around my mouth and hoping something will arise.

Generally this IPA is pretty average and, frankly, a little boring.

This 'IPA' pours a deep straw in color, very clear, and yields minimal head and lacing. Smell is mostly hollow, giving up a very light hop nose only when agitated up to hurricane status, otherwise carbonation is too low to yield anything on the nose.

Taste is a bit thin and offers a dry lightly bitter finish, rather unexciting to say the least. Had a number of these on Boston's North Shore a few weeks back for lack of other options. Wouldn't even consider buying this again if other options were available. Should I stumble upon a bottle(vs. tap) I'll revisit.

Serving 22oz bottle

Plenty of fine bubbles rise through a translucent light yellow body toward a finger thick frothy white head. Impressive amounts of thin sticky lacing are left about the glass, the only remnants left as the once billowing white head slowly fades into a thick frothy cap.

Somewhat muted on the nose with aromas of floral hops, grainy malts and bitter hop oils meld with hints of sweet, bready biscuits and a bit of minerals on the nose.

What happened to this beer? I remember it being darker in color - near translucent amber - with a much stronger bitter flavor paired with a nice dry hop finish. Now it features restrainted metallic hop bitters upfront with a bit of sweet malts peaking on the mid palate followed by some bready biscuts and dry grass on the finish. Flavors are very light and muted, overall it's quite restrained.

Mouthfeel is light for the style with ample fizzy carbonation. Flavor and hop bitters are dumbed down with a very short but not unpleasant finish.

This goes down easy, with a small refreshing hop bite and good off-dry bready finish - very quaffable for an ipa.

What happened to this brew harpoon? It used to be a true hophead's ipa with great malts to match. I hate to say it but now it tastes like a BMC level ipa for the masses - not for the die hard craft brew fan but it's a good as a session, party or backup beer.

Trying to figure out the label. Pours a slightly hazy golden straw color with a light orange hue throughout. A soft white head that does stay for some time but does not last through the tasting. Limited lacing as well.

The nose is limited overall. Most a malt backing with some hints of grainy notes. A light sugary note but the limited hop aroma makes this soft even for a pale. Some hints of earthy and light citrus hop notes. Very limited though. Really looking for more hops here. Some minor yeast notes as well.

The taste is similar with the malt being stronger then the hops. A sweetness up front with a malty backing and a light grainy taste. More of a two row with some dextrin notes to add depth. Really missing the bitterness and hops. Some minor hints on hops on the back end with a light orange and earthy taste. Some yeasty notes and a light metallic taste but light.

The body is moderate. Would like to see the malt dry out a bit. The carbonation is light as well. Both would help some hops come out. Overall, limited even for pale standards.

Poured in to pint glass and looked promising. Deep amber with a creamy think head.not shabby.

Smelled like pine and hops, a hint of turpentine or after shave. All in all it promised to be bitter.

If it promised bitterness it didn't fail to deliver. The bitterness hit me up front but lacked any real hops flavor. The only flavors I could taste was a bit of a spice bite and then warmth from the alcohol.

very average mouthfeel quite carbonated though.

Finished clean and fairly quick.

Haven't found an IPA that I've ever liked guess I still haven't. Can't see what all the hype is about, sorry!

Poured into a pint glass. Golden honey, transparent. Light half-inch head that dissipated quickly, with almost no lacing. Seems very carbonated. Mostly malts, and uncharacteristically earthy for an IPA. Smells almost skunky. Taste-wise, it seems a bit low on hops, but I suppose that's more typical of an English IPA (I'm more partial to American IPAs). If I hadn't read the label, I'd have guessed this was a lager. Tastes a little sweeter than I expected. Pleasant, but nothing to write a review about. Probably a nice cross-over for more traditional beer-drinkers looking to dabble in the craft-beer side, but fell a bit flat for me.

The colour is most definitely on the pale end of the spectrum for this type of beer - much lighter than I'm used to. Very fruity, almost bubblegummy nose to it - not malty, barely hoppy. Both the taste and the body are very thin. Almost no finish at all. Very little character, and not a beer I shall buy again.

Although in general, not a huge fan of IPA's, this was a decent brew that just didn't do it for me... A strong, bitter taste predominates the palate, with an oily aftertaste that just wasn't too appealing... I had it on draft and in a bottle, with the bottle tasting obviously stronger and more concentrated. If you are a fan of IPA's, this is worth a try, but there are better selections out there on the market...

Everyone gets a good on appearance since I cant see colors.

Beer drank smooth. A really light mouthfeel with a tingle of hops.

The smell was hops and very little else. It is an IPA, but I wouldn't mind smelling some beer.

No terrible aftertastes, but it was essentially hop water. Lacked any sort of balance with carbonation or malt.

I don't recommend.

Look: It pours a light golden color which a white head and plenty of lacing.

Aroma: It has aromas of floral hops, and some citrus.

Taste: It has a grassy hop flavors which floral elements, citrus, and a bit of toast. The initial flavors are a bit sweet.

Feel: It has a light body close to moderate, which a mildy bitter finish.

Overall: It is a somewhat flavorable hoppy beer that doesn't have the long lasting bitter finish that is produced by most IPA's.

12oz bottle -> pint glass
'bot on: 4.18.06' is printed on the bottle about an inch above the label

Pours a golden yellow with a bubbley inch head, which leaves this earth fast. Little to no lace. Light carbonation present. Nothing to right home about.

Slight floral aroma. Not much of a nose.

Taste: Boy this must be spoiled or something. Metallic taste, rice and yeast, no malt, no hops. Metallic bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is thin and watery.

This beer was a disappointment. Wondering if 4 months is just too old for this brew. I bought 3 of these, and i think the other 2 or going to my mooch neighbor who swills the Millwaters best.

I'd say stay away if the bottled on date is more than a couple months.

At first glance and smell, Harpoon IPA had me thinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Must be a fair amount of Cascade hops, which I thought a good sign. Tasting, however, found a generic, watered down pale ale with a little wet cardboard flavor. Mouthfeel was similarly watered down; not clean and crisp like I'm looking for. On the whole, just not a satisfying IPA.

poured from growler.

A: clear light copper. head, retention, and lacing are dismal. maybe it lost some juice in the growler is what im hoping.

S: a little bit of citrus is followed by a bunch of grain. sort of one-note on the grain as i revisit.

T: bitterness behind a lightly toasted grain body. minor notes of citrus are present in the hops. similar to the nose, unimpressive.

M: moderate carbonation on a medium body.

D: drinks like a lightly hopped fruit punch. however, this AIPA is certainly lacking a punch. in the craft beer world where there is an abundance of tasty hoppy pales, this is a pass.

This beer poured a clear golden yellow into a pint glass with virtually no head or lacing. Malty scents filled the beer, with slight hints of citrus and pine.

This beer is a sub-par stab at a craft IPA, because it doesn't have a particularly big or interesting hop bill, and the malts feel a bit too thin. I didn't get any distinguishing features on the palate other than some muted fruit and pine; to be honest it was kind of bland. Mouthfeel was a bit thin and watery too. There are better IPAs out there. This is OK, but I wouldn't go back to it.

gold color with nice, foamy head. Head has a bitter bite but has good legs. Their is a spicy, hop aroma. Their is a light malt taste with hop bitterness and a slight lemony aftertaste. The body is light/thin, could use more malt to balance this brew.

Got this in a trade from DrDogbeer. Thanks.

Pours a lager clear yellow. Thin white head at the top. Very little lacing.

Smells kind of hoppy but just aroma hoppy. Not too strong but it's there.

Taste is not what I was expecting at all. It tasted like a heavier lager with a little extra hops. It doesn't really taste like an IPA at all. It's ok but it just tastes like an anchor steam or something.

Mouthfeel is ok for a lager.

Don't think I will ever trade for this or even drink it if I am anywhere near where it is sold. This is not an IPA. I got it super fresh too.

Served from bottle into a shaker. Poured golden yellow-orange with a three finger bone white head that subside to one finger slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of pine, pine resin, and pine hops. The flaovr was of sweet malt, pine hop, and pine resin. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall I was not a massive fan of this one. If you like pine this is the beer for you... It was even more piney than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which I couldn't believe. Not balance in the flavor at all, just pine, pine, pine. The aroma was the best part about this one, but that's not saying much. Did I mention pine???

A darker srm than average for an ipa. Head was 1/2" off white. Aroma was almost completely devoid of hops. Shit no man, I believe you'd get your ass kicked for that.

Taste and mouthfeel are more reminiscient of an amber ale. There's more malt and roasting there than your average mass produced lager, but as for the ales, there just isn't the hopping, much less the india pale ale style. Is there brown malt in this? Bready toffee notes. Zucchini bread and shit in a bottle.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A - Very light in color, a little darker than straw. Transparent with not much of a head. Clean macro filtered look to it that, believe it or not, isn't unappealing.

S - Very slight hop presense, floral to be sure, covering a medicinal waft that isn't all that pleasant. Upon first sniff, it smelled like perfume.

T - Floral hops and a slight roasted maltiness. The hops are the first thing I noticed across my tongue, but their impact was minimal and never made a reappearance after the malts came into play.

M - Watery and dry.

D - Neither good nor bad. This beer isn't hard to drink, just not very complex.

Thanks to JeffKrenner for the opportunity. Now enjoy your Sand Dune IPA that you're going to get in return.

This beer looks prettier than it tastes or smells. It's a nice mild color, and its scent isn't too piney, but it lingers and when you actually sip it, it tastes like you're drinking something made from pinecones.

Paid $1.38 for a 12 oz. single.

Ehh. This is the standard IPA. A bit too bitter, even for the style. Not balanced by many hop flavors. Where's the aroma hops? I'm not very familiar with the brewery, but this was a diappointment. I will not try it again.
