Very drinkable IPA, just not as hoppy as I usually go for (which I guess this being fashioned after an english IPA, the flavor it hits, matches said style).

Pours a clear copper, left a fizzy white head that had a fair retention.

Smell from the bottle was pure grass, smell off the pour is grassy with a hint of skunk. Makes me worried about slight mistreating.

Nice malty character with hints of citrus in the background. No bitterness, but doesn't really do anything either. Middle of the road.

Light bodied, crisp, a bit on the warm side with alcohol feel. Drinkable.

From the bottle with the new label, it pours a golden amber with a just-off white head, quickly dissipating. Citrusy hops in the nose. Fresh, malted hops in the mouth. Feels good in themouth - yum!

Look: copper orange, slight lacing.

Smell: floral, grass, honey-fruit.

Taste: perfume, bright, young hops, lingers on the buds.

Feel: plenty carbonation, light-medium mouth feel, tangy.

Overall, for this style of English inspired ale, Harpoon has done a pretty damn good job. Let's say they aimed traditional but ended up with a bit of American one-up ism.

Dark gold in color with a fingernail of brilliant white on top. It looks a bit hazy and leaves behind heavy, soapy looking lacing. Aroma is of faint citrus hops. The taste is a balance of light bready malt and citrus hops. This is more like a pale ale, but I'm about a week away from the drink before date so perhaps it has faded somewhat. The mouth is faintly resinous, but this is fairly dry and quaffable.

I am a huge fan of this beer. This is a great beginner IPA, and it has a great taste of earthy hops with a light citrus taste with a hint of malt flavor. It is is very smooth and is not too harsh. It has a fruity and pleasant smell. Nothing better than to crack open a 22 ounce bottle to start off a night of drinking.

An extremely pleasant & drinkable EIPA. Poured out of the bottle, has a nice yellow, clear color with a nice foamy head. Lemon aroma. This starts soft, has a nice lemony flavor that dwells on the middle tongue then finishes soft and malty. Worth the price of admission but don't expect a super hoppy experience.

Appearance: Clear, straw gold. Small head
Smell: Malt fragrance. Light lemon notes.
Taste: Subtle hop notes of floral and citrus up front, cascading to a wheat and malt back end. Sweet malty after taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation.
Overall: Harpoon’s IPA is a great IPA for those new to the style. It drinks more like an EIPA, which is great for newcomers. There is a nice malt base, but it brings subtle hops when compared with other American IPAs.

Bottle enjoy by 11/15/15. Poured into a pint glass. Clear copper with a great two inch white head that retains for a while. Leaves great lacing. Smell is faint lemon. Taste is mild citrus, light grapefruit and balances with breadiness. Not a big fan of English ipas but for someone who is this is pretty good. Cheers!

Note: this is a review of the can.

Poured from the can into a pint glass. Nice amber color with a thick dense head that lasts and lasts. But then it goes down from there... Smell is faintly of coastal hotel must... And the initial taste is like a good beer poured through dirty lines... Or like if you poured a shot of tap water into a lagunitas ipa... Not bad... But not great. If I had to pick between this harpoon and a dale's I'd pick this ... Good for a cookout or tubing or walking down the street with a paper bag or somewhere else you absolutely need a can... But not a beer to seek out.

GOOD BUY, $8/6pack. Tasted at the America on Tap day-fest in Wilmington Aug 15th, 2015. It is delicious, not overly hopped - more like an American Pale Ale, we thought. Just found out is English style IPA - so that explains it (more like "Monkey" by Left Hand).

Well this is an interesting beer to review. A relic of an older craft beer age, if you will. Per style it's actually pretty well done. Restrained, earthy and leafy hops that are controlled by a nice caramel malt sweetness. It's nothing spectacular, which is funny that I say it because 15 years ago this would have been. Times have changed and Harpoon IPA is still around, watching all the other IPAs get hopped into out space. Harpoon IPA stays the same, keeping its malt prominent. Respect!

I don't know. What were the 'Bros' thinking. I like the amber hue in my glass, but the taste is rather skunky and harsh. I get the aroma of a E-IPA and taste but doesn't do it for me. Nicefluffy head. Fantastic lacing. But score for taste i must knock a few points off.

Not sure how I've missed this classic before now. Had at Legal Sea Foods Long Wharf, Boston, Mass., on draft into tumbler. A solid traditional English IPA, this beer must have been the answer to a condemned (to thirst) man's last request on its debut in 1993.

Harpoon IPA.

Quick review for one of the worst IPA's I've ever had.

Look - Deep yellow with a two finger white head that doesn't stick around. Carbonation is on high, and no lacing remains. 2.5.

Smell - What the fuck...skunk. 2.

Taste - Skunky with a few touches of old grapefruit juice. This is an IPA? 1.75

Feel - Watery body, lacking carbonation. 1.75.

Overall - Terrible. The fact they call this an IPA is just pityful. Tasted like a generic skunked lager that claims to be from Germany. 1.75.

Great IPA, one of my favorites so far, great smell, fruity but not exaggerated, right carbonation and a very appealing clear orange color. Will have it again.

Pours a nice orange with very little head.
Aromas of mild pine, orange mild citrus and hops.
Taste is weak for an IPA. Hits all the notes but very mildly.
Mouth feel is fair carbonation and a tinge of bitterness.
Sadley, i think there's better out there.

Date: June 24, 2015...Vessel: basic table glass...Occasion: last day of a three-day trip to Point Pleasant...Appearance: golden peach, effervescent body; white, creamy, half-finger head; body is transparent; glass drains with vibrant lacing... Aroma: as advertised, a caramel malt and citric hop blend that balances favorably; secondary hints of pine, orange, and melon make for an alluring entrance...Palate: peaceful, soft start; a bit thin, but the malts add a creamy, medium-bodied finish... Taste: the caramel malts take the lead, giving way to slightly bitter hops; drinkable and refreshing, with soft fruit and almost no pine...an East Coast IPA that could almost be a pale ale in profile...Overall: a nice match for a sunny, poolside beach day, with no overwhelming features to suggest a nuanced or groundbreaking beer; having been at this game a while, Harpoon deserves credit for doing what they do well, and this is a standard I recall from my early drinking days...a vacation-worthy beer...

The first IPA that I ever had. At that time is was great. It has a slight hoppy flavor with a little bitter aftertaste. Not a bad beer but there are so many better IPA'S out there to drink.

A great, moderately hopped IPA. It's piney, but not excessively so, and leaves a pleasantly bitter aftertaste behind. A great beer in it's own right, and I think it serves as an excellent introduction to the style for people who are unfamiliar, because it hits the standard notes, but remains very drinkable and not too heavy.

Easy drinking. Being from Boston it is fairly cheap here and a great regular drinking option. Mouthfeel is a bit heavy at times but the taste is a decently hoppy and with a nice bready, biscuity finish. Hints of caramel for me with floral overtones as well. Not too simple, not too complex. A great sessionable beer that keeps you interested while again, remains drinkable. I may be a bit biased, but I have to say I feel this beer is better than reviewers are saying. Harpoon never fails to satisfy me.

I'm not sure why Bostonians say this IPA is hoppy. At 42 IBU it qualifies as an IPA but only barely. Not much citrus or floral smell but enough. Aftertaste lingers but thirst quenching bitterness is lacking. Better than any British IPA I have tried, so kudos for improving the style.

L: It pours brilliant gold under a 3” finely bubbled cream colored persistent foam collar that hugs the side of the glass.
S: This is five months past is best by date but the floral hop aromas are still detectasble from several feet away. Closer up are traces of citrus and pepper.
T: Clean, crisp and dry with light malt on the front end and assertive floral hops on the finish. A trace of light caramel to toffee along with light citrus on the tongue.
F: Medium body and carbonation.
O: A strikingly beautiful beer that is hoppy yet refreshing and easy to drink.

One of the first breweries to bring ale brewing back to New England. New England, particularly Boston, has always been known as home of ale cisumers, because of its large irish population.

A great IPA. Nice hop malt balance. Not so happy you can't taste the malt. Smooth and very drinkable. One of my favorite all time ales (Ballantine IPA was one and Sierra Nevada IPA another).
