Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA will challenge your senses and your palate. As the vibrant aroma rushes out of your glass you will notice the blend of piney and tropical fruit notes. At first sip, this big beer starts with a powerful hop bitterness up front and an aggressive hop flavor and character throughout.
Leviathan Imperial IPA is brewed with tons of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt body to balance the hop intensity. We used copious amounts of a variety of hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo at various points during the boil to create a complex hop flavor and clean lingering bitter finish. We then fermented the beer with Harpoon’s own versatile proprietary yeast. Finally, we dry hopped at a rate of over 1 lb a barrel to produce this beer’s massive aroma.

A big thanks to @beerbeerbeerbeer for this one!
12oz bottle poured into a Unibroue tulip
O- a solid DIPA; fairly tasty with a well-contrasted (yet balanced) profile; pretty good drinkability for the abv as well
Consumption date: 02.14.11

Amber color; perfect, off-white head. Tropical, fruity madness in the aroma. Caramel malt, pine , and grapefruits in taste. Strong , hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass
1 finger head that disappeared about half way through. Leaves some lacing.
Smells of grapefruit, orange, and malty.
Taste is big. Bitterness right off the bat followed by the alcohol taste that isn't hidden. This is definitely a big beer. Hoppy sort of sweet. I feel the alcohol Is center stage here.
The feel is full to heavy bodied. Sticky, sort of a syrup feel
It accompanied BBQ baby back ribs and baked potato so I though it was the perfect combo.
Over all this is a huge beer that must be respected. Great for special occasions. Would definitely purchase again. Needless to say I had one and ONLY one. The 10% ABV could prove to be dangerous.

Just like the mythical creature, this this will put up a fight! At first you taste it and wonder if you can conquer it before it defeats you...next thing you know, you’re three down, laughing on the floor and screaming out, “I slayed the sea dragon!”
This beer will take you to the edge, in a good way. Forget myths, grab one of these in reality.
