Notes / Commercial Description:
Pott’s Landbier, or “country beer,” is a traditional session lager with a decidedly malty backbone made up of a blend of German and North American malts. The smooth malt character is tempered by the German bittering hop Magnum, which lends a clean, crisp balance. This beer is finished with more German hops for a spicy herbal palate and aroma. Fermented with Pott’s proprietary lager yeast – and imbued with over 240 years of German brewing tradition -- this is just the beer to quench your summer thirst.

'Bout to get my Pott's on ...

A- Rich brown color that is clear and can be seen through. Pours a large fluffy head the color of cinnamon sugar. Head stays at about a finger's width, replenished by carbonation streaming from the bottom of my goblet.

S- Very malty, but clean and not musty like some beers you'll get. A light bitterness of hops in the background. Pungent for a lager ...

T- Very tasty. Starts with the sweet malt, but then quickly goes into a fruit flavor profile- cider apples maybe- with a nice hoppiness (just a bit of pine). Finishes with a bit more malt.

M- Fairly light bodied with little strong mouthfeel, but does have a subtle bitterness that stays with you after you swallow.

O- I like it a lot and would recommend you grab one quick if you see it on the store shelves. As my brother said "Blows Sam Adams out of the water." ... though he also just sang "I dance like a German. I swing my hips." Clearly he's been affected by the Pott's family as well.

Pours a dark amber/copper color with dark golden orange edges and a frothy two finger white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Chinks of soapy lacing left behind.  

Sweet, slightly earthy aroma with hints of earthy grass and floral hops countered by sweet malt noted and some light fruit.  Also some biscuit/bread character.  

Fuller bodied than expected with a nice balance of delicate floral hops and sweet malt.  Faintly toasted with hints of bread, biscuit, caramel and toffee.  Floral hops add subtle spice but very little bitterness.  Hints of apricot add to caramel malt swetness.  Well balanced decent session beer.

APPEARANCE – Light red, with a nice thick head that retain well. There is a constant flow of bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Awesome lacing.
AROMA- Roasted malts and a bit of a snunkyness to it.
TASTE – Very light, mild and very bland. The only flavors that really stand out is a mild grain, almost a white bread taste, however it is refreshing.
MOUTHFEEL – Very light with a good carbonation level.
CONCLUSION – OK, not bad. I was expecting more from a special brew. This should be canned as it would be a great summer beer.

A: deep, bold copper color. gorgeous vienna lager shade. clear with a dense reddish head. retention isn't great while the lacing is.

S: starts with a burst of sweetness. moves into a mild hop aroma that can be characterized by spicy moss.

T: a mild sweetness. toasty-ness works its way in with a touch of caramel. balance is there with some kind of noble earthiness in the finish. good hop flavor.

M: solid carbonation on a light/medium body.

D: considering this isn't the freshest of examples (according to bottling dates on Harpoon's site, it was bottled over a year ago), this is tasting pretty good. subtle complexities make this a very drinkable amber lager.

pour was a nice medium amber color with a decent cloudiness that actually suprised me as a nice head of white rose up and hing around for a good few minutes before dropping back down to earth, but leaving touches all along the sides. aroma is light as the touches of bread and grains give way to a muted earth hops that has touches of clove in it. flavor is about the same with only touches of interesting depth found every little bit and the warmer it got the less interesting overall. still light and went down smooth and fast.

Got a sample of this at the ACBF in 2010. I picked this out because I had seen it in stores but didn't want to buy a whole bomber of it. The look of the beer had an amber color with a decent white head for a little while. The smell was minimal, some grains on the nose mostly. The taste was light as well, the only flavors I could really detect was the grains and some grassy notes. The mouthfeel was light again and didn't have q whole lot of body to it. Overall not really an impressive beer to me. Probably won't be looking for this.

22oz bottle, unknown date but a number of months old. However, it has been stored at a constant 38F since arriving at the store so that should help preserve some freshness. Served at around 45F.

Pours clear copper/amber with a two finger off-white light beige head that leaves some walls of lacing and holds a wispy cap.

Aroma is grains, cereal, bread, some grassy and earthy hops. As it warms some light fruit such as apples and a more toasty character develop. Moderate to good strength, getting better as it warms.

Flavor is bread, grains, some caramel malt, good spiciness, decent grassy hop and citrus zest bitterness on the finish. Zero alcohol detected.

Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium bodied, a bit oily, medium carbonation.

My first Landbier and despite not being all that fresh, is still quite enjoyable and I wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to try another in the style down the road. Also serves as a good example as to what refrigeration can do to help preserve the lifespan of what should normally be a fairly fragile beer.

First had: on tap at Pinocchio's, Media, PA

Hmm... sounded good, but tasted about the same as a Yuengling. Which is still ok. Poured amber-brown with a decent white head that receded rather quickly. Sweet, roasty malts in the nose and not much more. Malty taste, a bit thin, nutty. Light mouthfeel, and a tad watery, but somewhat drinkable for the less adventurous.

a: beer is amber brown with a thick and persistent head.

s: malty and herb notes.

t: maltier than I was expecting but it has a rich earthy tone to it.

m: drinks pretty easy. even though it's malty it isn't too sweet.

o: Decent beer for what it is worth. I think this beer might benefit from being served on tap.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass... it's a deep orange color, clear with lots of bubbles and two fingers worth of frothy white head. Good retention and lacing.

It smells crisp, just a hint of malt and hops but nothing too dominant. Kinda faint, really.

The flavor is better, hops are most dominant and it's a little bitter due to a lack of balance. It could really use some more malt flavor to me.

The mouthfeel is fine other than the awkward bitter aftertaste. It's got a great body for such a low alcohol beer.

The weird bitter taste keeps me from really wanting another, but it's not going to keep me from finishing the bomber easily!

Appearance: Pours a very clear light amber color with a small 1/4" head of small white bubbles after a pretty quick pour. The head faded into a pretty substantial ring around the top of the beer within about 30 seconds, but didn't get much smaller than that. There is already a decent amount of lacing left on the glass just from swirling.

Aroma: I initially got a pretty healthy dose of toasty malts and sweet Cara-Hell malts. I do get a bit of hops adding a subtle grassy note, but they are very supportive of the malts.

Taste: The flavor is really clean and malty with toasty and sweet light caramel aplenty, but there is a bitterness that is there in the finish that is unmistakable...so much so that it seems a little out of place. Overall the mouthfeel of this beer is medium to light with plenty of carbonation, so it comes across quite light. If it weren't for the bitter component, you could drink this beer really quickly. As it is, with the carbonation where it is and the hops, you get a substantial hop-burp after just about every sip.

Opinion: Overall this is a pretty decent beer, but it reminisces of an Amber a bit to me. I like the balance for a change, but it is a little wacked for the Vienna style. Either way, it is a good drinking beer and there are no flaws whatsoever. It is light in alcohol, but it is still substantial on the palate enough to let you know that this is no adjunct driven half-a$$ attempt at making a beer. I just think that the bittering hops are a bit high for the style and that is nit-picking. This a good beer and I wouldn't mind drinking it again. Give it a shot if the opportunity presents itself.

A: nice head, deep amber color
S: clean, roasted malt/grainy nose, very traditional, earthy, sweeter
T: chewy, sweetish, roasted malt up front with decent hop finish, it just needs a bit more bitter finish but well-made

22 oz. bottle tried 5 Aug 2010. Served in the 0.25 L DAB mug.

Big tan bubbly head. Lightly carbonated. Clear walnut brown color. Aroma is caramel and spice, nutmeg, brown sugar and a hint of ripe banana. Taste is similar, caramel with a touch of spiciness throughout. Some mineraly bitterness towards the end. Finish and aftertaste is sweet and mild. Medium body. Minimal alcohol presence.

Decent, but a 100 barrel limited edition should be great.

On-tap at the Flying Saucer

A - Poured a brown color with an off white head that leaves lacing behind

S - Not that much to it other than some sweet malt

T - Has a boring light flavor very mild sweet malt I think Shiner Bock has more going on than this

M - This beer has a thin light body with medium carbonation to it

D - This would have been a decent beer but the fact that Harpoon slapped limited release on it and a higher price make me mad as this is not a beer that deserve that label save your money and buy a better tasting beer

Pours a crystal clear light brown with a good two finger head the dissipates to a cap on top. Smells of bready malt mixed with some caramel melanoids, a spicy floral aroma from the hops and some light sweet fruits. Taste follows the aroma fairly well. Medium level of carbonation, sweet sticky mouthfeel, medium body. I enjoyed this beer. Smooth easy to drink sessionable lager.

Pours a moderate brown with a single-finger white head and a good dose of streaky lacing and a full cap. The nose brings forward plenty of earthy hops, which are followed up by a slight woody character. Under all of this is a bready base.

The taste is more bready, but still has quite a few of those earthy components. The beer is a bit plain, but certainly well made. The earthy component is a nice addition, though it doesn't have quite the maltiness that I'm normally looking for in a Vienna. Props again to Harpoon for continuing this series, which--along with Troegs' Scratch--is one I like forward to trying new beers from.

Shared with some friends at a hombrew club meeting (cuz he didn't have anything ready)...out of a bottle this beer was a clear, amber/bronze color. The retention of the white head was so-so and it left moderate lacing. The aroma was of Vienna malt, pilsner-like hops notes and dry Czech-style hops. The flavors were malty up front with a lot of bread which I wasn't really expecting. After that I tasted more of the caramel malt sweetness and herbal, bitter hops. The mouthfeel was average, the body medium and the carbonation average too. Very middle of the road and not the most exciting entry to the 100 Barrel Series.

Had this with pasta dinner I prepared tonight which included salad (with italian dressing, cabbage, green & red peppers, leaks, celery, and lettuce) and marinara based pasta with lightly sauteed peppers and leaks. Turned out to not be the best beer-food pairing.

T: First taste was out of the bottle before any food and was pretty good. Mild carbonation and lager feel initially, then turning into a mildly spicy, amber hop taste. Second taste (still before food) was less noteworthy and kind of reminded me of a shitty canned generic lager at points. The food definitely dulled the flavor of this beer. Even after eating the hop finish still activates the onion taste of the leaks.

S: Smells even more generic than it tastes

A: I poured the rest into a European pint. 1/2 finger head that leaves some residue, medium amber color.

M: Good. The carbonation spreads the hop bite out rapidly. Still get the commcercial canned beer effect.

D: Could drink tons of these in a sitting, just not a very noteworthy beer. Wasnt even interested in finishing it towards the end.

The beer pours a deep red color with a cream-colored head. The aroma is heavy on the toffee and caramel malt, along with some Belgian yeast, brown sugar and cinnamon. The flavor is heavier on the spicing than the aroma. I get cinnamon and cloves, as well as some brown sugar, caramel malt, yeast, dark cherries and a little bit of alcohol. Still, the alcohol is fairly well hidden for a 10 percent ABV beer. Medium mouthfeel and high carbonation.
