Enjoyed in a snifter

A: pours a medium amber color that is very slightly hazy and has a finger of light tan head that is very frothy and lingers nicely, leaves a small amount of spotty lacing
S: vinegar, alcohol and bourbon
T: begins with a definite woody note then moves into what i would call a bourbon like character, finishes with a pretty obvious alcohol tinge that actually isn't unpleasant
M: pretty intense carbonation which lingers all the way to the end of the sip, drinks with a pretty interesting thick viscosity, leaves the mouth wet and sticky
O: i can never really decide if i like barley wines r not, i'm pretty sure my mind changes daily but this one was pretty nice, a bit aggressive but i think that character really fits the style

Appearance: Hazy dark amber body, crowned by a massive, dense, and persistent cream-colored head. Thick, unbroken lacing coats the glass walls.

Aroma: Caramel, plums, raisins, plums, and honey dominate the aroma. There is a strong undercurrent of sweet alcohol as well. Hops are present, to be sure, mainly herbal and floral in character.

Taste: Dark fruit and caramel dominate the taste. Sweet, warming alcohol is a supporting undercurrent, throughout. The malt contributes a flavor somewhere between biscuit and shortbread, more to the latter, for a slight sweetness. Hops dominate the finish, with woody, herbal flavors vying with the caramel, dark fruit, and sweet alcohol, drawing the taste to a gracious close.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and full, simply excellent.

Drinkability/Notes: Simply wonderful. Another excellent example that is, alas, apparently no more. As I clean out the veer cellar to make room for new acquisitions, I feel a touch of sadness at those we will probably never experience again.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass longneck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a South American Pilsener-style glass.

L: A nice color; deep burgundy. Off-white head with lots of suspended sediment.

S: Caramel mingling with dark fruits and licorice. Pretty malty but some hop aroma is perceptible. Alcohol is present. Also bisquity. Pretty nice.

T: More dark fruits, caramel, and toffee. A maltiness that is both bready and bisquity, with a good deal of hop bitterness; more than I had anticipated. Pretty malty upfront . Alcohol also has a presence in the taste.

F: Medium-full, slick mouthfeel. Low carbonation. A good deal of alcoholic heat, which Iā€™m not welcoming at the moment.

Overall: A decent English barleywine. This one packed a bit of heat; some time in the cellar would do well to curb the hotness as well as let some of the hoppiness fade, which is a little much for the style. But not bad at the end of the day.

L: Pours orange tinted amber with 2.5ā€ off-white foam collarthat grips the side of the glass.
S: Resiny, citrusy hops, sweet malt, dried fruit.
T: Begins with sweet malt, some light caramel notes, light fruit and a hint of dried apricot.
F: This is a full bodied luscious, chewy beer with medium carbonation
O: The big malt and hops mask the alcohol making for a deceptively drinkable beer.
