UFO PumpkinUFO Pumpkin

Brewed by:
Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall
Massachusetts, United States

Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.90%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Imagine a pumpkin vine wound its way in a field of barley, and a brewer harvested it all to make a beer. Add Northwestern hops and a blend of spices, and you've got UFO Pumpkin. The malt combination provides a smooth body and slightly sweet flavor, which balances perfectly with the earthy notes derived from the pure pumpkin. And like all of our UFO beers, UFO Pumpkin is unfiltered so all the wonderful flavors are right there in your glass. Cheers!

12 oz. bottle

Pours foggy hazy amber orange with a quickly dissipating white foam head. Smells like autumn spices, pumpkin, bready grain, graham crackery malts, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like pumpkin, bready grain, graham crackery malt, autumn spices, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, with earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice unfiltered pumpkin ale.

12 oz. in a tulip.

Appearance: Hazy, rusty orange with a big white head of froth.

Aroma: Pumpkin, spice. Smells somewhat like a pumpkin candle.

Taste: Ehhhh meh. It's a mishmash of spices along with a somewhat cloying, jammy pumpkin. Some weird wheat type flavor, too. Honey. Malty sweetness. I'm not a big fan.

Mouthfeel: Has some body, but basically light.

Overall: Can't say I dug this. I'm not the biggest pumpkin beer fan, and this one is particularly "busy" tasting, and not in a good way. Kind of tastes like a beer version of a hastily made pumpkin pie that wasn't in the oven long enough.

Hazy, thick golden orange color with a full, frothu, dense white cap keeps it real.

A very nice aromatic blend of pumpkin spice, sweet maple malt, spicy-herbal hop blend. Subtle other fruity tones pop out, slightly tropical and very fresh. Spicy pumpkin pie.

A very pleasant, sweet honey malt rides in first, pumkin pure'e, brown sugar, cinnemon, cloves with an herbal hop zest makes for a pretty flavor spectrum. I must admit, Pumpkin beers are not really my thing, however I can enjoy a good version evety now and again. This version is actually pretty interesting.

The feel is pretty smooth, but also with a rather cloying, slick malty effect, long and sweet. I would certainly appreciate a mouthfeel more crisp from this style. Pumpkin flavoring can sometimes make it feel to malty/sugar sweet and slick. Perhaps a slightly highet hop profile would make it a bit more refreshing.

Maybe a bit too sweet and slick but certainly not a bad Pumpkin.

UFO Pumpkin has a thick, bone-colored head, an opaque, orange appearance, with some lacing left behind. The aroma is of bold pumpkin pie spices, and the flavor is of white pepper, pumpkin pie spices, gourd, and low-level beer flavor. Mouthfeel is heavy, and UFO Pumpkin finishes on the dry side.

Very nice fall beer.
Smells great and drinks real easy. Pumpkin, nutmeg, vanilla.....

If you are looking for complexity, this is not it. It's just good easy drinking fall ale.

Appearance - Pours somewhat cloudy burnt orange color, so so white head that completely disappears, no lacing.

Smell - Very sweet pumpkin smell, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, brown sugar. Smells alot like pumpkin pie.

Taste - Much like the smell, the taste is not as strong as the smell which is a shame. Pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla.

Feel - Medium body there seems to be a little too much carbonation.

Overall - I like this beer I wish the taste had as much flavor as the smell alludes too. Still a strong beer I enjoyed.

Look: Pours a cloudy, orange hue with a half finger, off white head.

Smell:I'm getting Cinnamon, allspice, clove, ginger, mild spearmint and very faint notes of caramel.

Taste: Not bad, but not terribly impressive. A little watery. Mild malty flavors of custard and honey upfront. Light notes of cinnamon, clove and graham crackers in the background. A dry, soapy potpourri taste on the finish.

Feel: Light body with low carbonation. It's unfiltered so the feel has a little extra body and "oompfh" to it, but it's still on the thin side.

Overall Comments: A little bland, but not bad. I can't tell if this is an old beer or not unfortunately since there's no bottled date which I'm a little salty about... just a "best before" date... which sucks.

Also there's no % ABV listed on the bottle, what the hell is up with that Harpoon? That's very pertinent information we as consumers need to know. DWI's are no joke.

Enjoy by 1/15/17. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy burnt golden with a fluffy off-white head that slowly falls leaving great retention and solid lacing. The aromas have a ton of ginger. There's some cinnamon and nutmeg in the mix. I'm also picking up some citrus notes, which I didn't expect. There's some lemon and pine in the mix. The flavors have a huge blast of cinnamon. The ginger and nutmeg follow. Some fresh grass with a subtle bitterness. There's a subtle sweetness, but it's balanced. Alcohol goes completely unnoticed. Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy and very smooth. Very easy to drink.

This is a nice pumpkin ale. It's traditional and unique at the same time. I might be the minority, but I'm picking up some citrus, which makes this one different. Not bad at all.

From the bottle, it pours a yellowy-orange amber with a small head. The head quickly dissipates, leaving a film and ring around the glass. Pumpkin pie in the nose, and a bit of malt on the tongue.

My first pumpkin brew. Nice looking beer. Aroma like pumpkin pie with all the requisite spices, and taste follows the nose. Mouthful is nice and soft, in keeping with an unfiltered beer. The mild, but just noticeable enough hop presence saves this beer from being cloying in its sweetness and balances things out. Nevertheless, I could only drink this once in a while, not because it's bad, just due to personal tastes/mood..The surprisingly high (though not really tasteable) alcohol content does add to the enjoyment, although I know this quality should not impact a review. Bottom line, if you're in the mood for this type of beer, it's good. I had my doubts, but liked this beer more than I was expecting to. Cheers.

Look- Golden orange unfiltered and indeed murky. Formed a 3 fingers of slightly tan and very quickly dissipating head. Next to noo lacing.

Smell- Pumpkin spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and A slight touch of wheat

Feel- Smooth, light body; medium/high carbonation, drink ability if fairly high

This beer has a very slight hint of what I would call pumpkin with that said it will most likely be the last Pumpkin beer of the year I try. I think most would find this beer enjoyable but it does leave a bit of dryness on the pallet. when it comes to my facebook letter grade it gets a C-

Pours a hazy golden amber color with a finger width carbonated head. Head retention is virtually non-existent. Lacing is decent. A lot of spices in the aroma. Nutmeg, cinnamon and light pumpkin. Taste is pretty much the same but really isn't bad. A lot of cinnamon and nutmeg spice with some pumpkin in the background. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Not a bad beer. Better than expected.

As with many of this style, the pumpkin is lost in the abundance of spices. Pours pretty - a cloudy orange with think white skim on top. Aromas are predicable and pleasant - cinnamon, nutmeg and slight pumpkin. Flavors translate directly, with a nice sweetness mid-sip. Slightly over-carbonated.

Cloudy, unfiltered orange-dirty gold color. Small head which leaves a couple of streaks for lace.

Cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice start off the smell. Very light pumpkin in the background.

Nutty and spicy (like the aroma). Very much a pumpkin pie beer. Short aftertaste. Like most Harpoon beers, the carbonation is high. Mild sourness in the aftertaste, otherwise, I'd call this a one-trick pony.

UFO Pumpkin brewed by Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall, with an ABV of 5.9% This brew pours out a nice cloudy amber , also orange color. Pumpkin UFO also has a nice white head on top. I really like the color of this brew. The smell of pumpkin UFO is spices , pumpkin, grains, malts, and a hit of hops. Now for the taste, it is just like pumpkin pie. Not saying that is a bad thing. This brew you really pick up on the pumpkin and the spice. There is a lot going on in this brew, it has a nice balance to it. There is nothing overpowering about pumpkin UFO. You really can't pick up on the 5.9% ABV in this brew. Pumpkin UFO is a real smooth drinking brew. The mouth feel of Pumpkin UFO is rich, bold , and refreshing. Overall I'm giving Pumpkin UFO a 4.5 out of 5. Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall, did a nice job with this brew. I would buy this brew again.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (best by date 15Dec15).
LOOK: Pours with a finger's worth of off-white foam that shrivels down to a line after 35 seconds. Orange in color with a moderate cloudiness. Rising bubbles are subtle. Lacing is hardly there.
SMELL: Had mild aromas of pumpkin, sweet bready malts, cinnamon, and nutmeg with a hint of cloves and wheat.
TASTE: Strong flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg along with mild flavors of pumpkin are up front. Hints of clove and wheat immediately follow as pumpkin flavors grow slightly stronger (which is great because that initial nutmeg and cinnamon taste is overpowering) but cinnamon and nutmeg flavors persist. Whatever malt flavors that were detected by the nose are cancelled out by the spices.
FEEL: Medium-bodied and strongly carbonated (we meet again). Goes down harsh due to the carbonation. Ends with a thirst-quenching finish. Spices from the brew tickle the tongue.
NOTE: This puts other pumpkin ales to shame. So good.

Enjoy by 12/15/15.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of pie crust, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon sugar aromas. Taste is much the same with pumpkin pie spice and pie crust flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is straightforward but solid for the style.

Serving type: bottle.

Smell: Sweet pumpkin spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and spices. A slight touch of wheat.

Poured from bottle. Appearance is cloudy orange/amber. Aroma is full of pumpkin pie spices: nutmeg, cinnamon, clove; and a bubblegum note that may be the toasted barley. Flavors match the aromas with some pumpkin flavor on top of the spices. Medium body.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, golden/orange color, with a quarter of a finger of white head that quickly and completely dissolved away into nothing.

Aroma: Wow, lots of spice! Cinnamon, nutmeg, all-spice, clove, ginger and of course pumpkin! Not much in the way of malt or hops, however.

Taste: Great! Lots of pumpkin up front, along with a good malty backbone. There’s a little bit of brown sugar-like sweetness, followed by tones of spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, all-spice, clove and ginger. Finally, there is no hops bitterness to speak of, which I overall prefer.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, but with no carbonation to speak of. With an ABV of 5.9%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is another very tasty offering from Harpoon. It’s a very nicely balanced beer, and one that I’ll get again next Autumn.

A - Pours a golden orange, not near as bright orange as most pumpkin ales but it is advertised as unfiltered and indeed murky. Formed a 3/4 finger of slightly tan and quickly dissipating head. No lacing.
S - Smells more like a Belgian golden ale such as Duvel than a pumpkin ale. Not getting much spice here.
T - Upfront there is a bite of carbonation and just a beery beer taste, however, a few seconds into the development and wonderful warm pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger bread, nutmeg, allspice and clove develop sweetly. This beers all about the late development and aftertaste.
O - A very good pumpkin ale. A little iffy on the initial upfront development, but a prime example of the pumpkin ale style at the tail end.
V - Good value, 8 bucks a six pack.

A - A dirty orange color, almost looking like apple cider, slightly cloudy; a 1/2 inch off-white head settles to the rim, no lacing, a moderate level of carbonation can be seen feeding the last of the head, which ultimately disappears completely
S - Not too much going on here, very mild apple and spice, but all very slight
T - An odd bitterness to this beer that I didn't particularly care for, the slightest hint of pumpkin is there, but only if you're trying to find it; a very odd (not good) aftertaste
F - Fizzy and a bit thin, slightly dry
O - I tried, but either Pumpkin beers are just a seasonal novelty to make cool bottle labels or pumpkins were just not meant for making beer. I will continue to try these, but I have found very, very few that are worth a damn.
