This was part of a Rush River mixed 12 pack that I recently purchased.
The amber ale was my first ever Rush River Brewery beer that I have tried.
I am not impressed, except for the look it is a very pretty amber color.
But looks do not make taste.
We used to call the way it tastes skunky, to my palate anyway and what beer tastes like that has been kept too long, too hot etc.
If it wasn't for the fact that I just recently purchased this from a large busy liquor store i would say that it is old.
But it is not and was brewed in October and I put it down into my 55 degree basement when I got it home.
I would definitely not seek this out to drink anymore.
I hope the rest of the other varieties, in the mixed 12 pack, are better than this one.

Frothy, thick head. Typical reddish brown color with decent carbonation. Subtle notes of yeast on the nose, flavor is much stronger. Average toasted malt profile with a good hop bite that gives this brew a refreshing feel and flavor. Far from my favorite amber ale, but would definitely enjoy again.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amber color with a soft off-white head. SRM of 15 (3.75)

Aroma: Aromas of caramel, toffee, flower, citrus, and vanilla. So complex and delicious aromas here.

Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with more caramel, toffee, flower, vanilla with hints of citrus on the end. Finishes only mildly sweet.

Feel: Rather lighter-bodied. Low carbonation. Drinks sort of watery. A mild sweetness on the palate. (3.25)

Compared to Bells' Amber Ale 5/31/20: Pours a slightly darker color. Aromas are more complex. More English notes of toffee, caramel, and flower. Less spicy and sweet citrus. Overall, more English. Winner: Rush River

Overall: An absolutely delicious and complex Amber Ale. Such great caramel, toffee flower, vanilla, citrus balanced. Showcases even some English flavor too. The downside would be the body, in that it drinks kind of watery. Really a fantastic Amber nonetheless. Will be drinking again. (Final Rating: 4.02)

Well made like all of the rush river stuff has been, but really, at the end of the day, it's just another amber ale. This one has a little more body than most, fluffy and sturdy, and smooth going down, substantial enough to be four season beer, even up here. It also has a nice concentrated flavor, that while more or less traditional, is more robust that we are used to in the style. Nutty and sweet, hints of maple syrup there, a richer crystal type malt and nothing more than necessary buttering hops that provide some grassy balance later on. Sturdy and autumnal, this is definitely the best time of year for it, sort of a nice alternative to the samey octoberfest types out there right now. These guys make good beer, and while this is a far cry from their most inventive, it's very tasty and probably one of the better straight up Amber types I have had in awhile. Longer caramel finish, almost English for a second, mellow all the way. An easy six pack to get into any time of day, good food beer too.

Looked great coming out of the bottle & in the glass. But had a flat initial taste and then an aftertaste that tasted a little like fermaldyhyde.
