Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a tulip.

Appearance - Looks a little thin for an imperial stout, and has a thin head.

Smell - Rich smooth chocolate smell, very appealing.

Taste - First tastes are rich smooth chocolate, however that rich flavor is countered by a rather thin stout taste. The thin taste of stout diminishes the good chocolate taste.

Mouthfeel is too thing for the style.

Drinkability. The thin mouthfeel makes this more drinkable. The 8% alcohol is well masked.

Exceptional beer, one of the best chocolate stouts I've had.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-Black, opaque, and totally impermeable to light. Tall, dense, tan, frothy head with a fine bead, nice lacing, and good retention.

Aroma-Intoxicating chocolatey and slight coffee aroma. Dry, roasted dark malts. Slight vegetal note. Light Vanilla.

Flavor-Bittersweet chocolate up front. Slightly bland at the beginning, but the middle of the palate has a nice rich chocolate flavor (tastes like a chocolate bar). As the flavor fades, there are slight nutty and dry roast notes. Moderately low earthy hop flavor and hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel-Medium body with moderate carbonation. Creamy and smooth.

A: Black with thick brown head. Decent lacing throughout.

S: Chocolate. Hint of roasty malts.

T: BAM! Chocolate! Malty backbone is definitely present but this beer is overrun by bitter, dark chocolate.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, found the creaminess perfect.

D: The ABV is high but well hidden. Wouldn't suggest running through a 6er in an evening.

I actually am in love with this beer and the way it was done. Might be too heavy handed for some folks but I really enjoyed it! Drank all winter long and makes me excited to do so again next year.

Pitch black color with two fingers of tan head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Massive amount of sticky lacing is left on the glass.

Mostly roasted malt aroma. Maybe just a hint of chocolate and smoke. Does not smell like anything special.

Good chocolate flavor up front. Nicely balanced with roasted malt. A hint of smoke. The chocolate and roasted bitterness are balanced. Some alcohol flavor in the finish as well as some warming.

A little overcarbonated and a touch thin. Maybe if the carbonation is toned down a little, the body would feel more substantial.

An enjoyable stout with some chocolate flavor. I appreciated the balanced flavor.

A big thanks to Aaron (laymansbeerfan) for this beer. Cheers!

Appearance – Pours a dark viscosity into a tulip with about two fingers of mocha head that dissipates at a quick pace leaving good lacing.

Smell – A great bittersweet cocoa character, oats, toasted malts, and coffee.

Taste – Similar to the aroma. Lots of cocoa, earthy hops, slight hops, just a little coffee, nuttiness, and some roasted malts.

Mouthfeel – Medium to almost lighter bodied, plentiful and active carbonation.

Overall – Actually, this is a pretty good beer. No alcohol warmth or flavor. Extremely quaffable and a great night cap. Curious why this gets such bad reviews. It’s not the best…but certainly not the worst. I’d drink this again for sure.

From tasting notes 9-14-11

Appearance: Jet black pour, light cocoa head, super creamy and quite foamy. The head settles very slowly and has very good retention, leaving a thick web of lace down the entire glass. Quite Outstanding!

Smell: Coffee and roasted malts warmly greet the nose, followed by a hint of dark chocolate. Smells heavenly.

Taste: The taste is coffee up front followed by dark chocolate and then roasted malts. The oats really lend a beautiful, rich creaminess to this beer.

Mouthfeel: Thick, creamy mouthfeel; medium-low carbonation, and a dry finish. A very drinkable 8% abv beer.

Overall: A beautiful beer with lots of flavor and a rich, creamy texture that makes this a velvety treat to enjoy anytime of the year. Very well done!

I was actually really excited for this beer. It looked so tasty, I mean, when can you go wrong when some attempts an oatmeal choco stout? Anyways, this beer really kind of lacked taste. It wasnt bad and neither was the smell or color I guess I just had higher expectations. Not a bad beer for someone who is just starting it in the dark beers world. Otherwise if you know beers, grab the founders oatmeal stout. Cheers.

Good looking beer, huge head that stays. Smells pretty good too, coffee, oatmeal, but of chocolate. It's a bit thin and has a tinny taste on there. Look and smell were my favorite things about this beer but it's not bad
