Incredibly bright and forshadowed with tangy fruits of the citrus and tropical variety, the joint forces of Jolly Pumpkin and Upland brewers give us a bright Belgian-inspired taste although the beer is uniquely of an American sour ale.

With an arid blanket of foam, the beer otherwise pours a bright gold early and a hazy goldenrod late as the yeast sediment joins the party. But throughout its vivid bouquet of lime and pepper decorate the nose. Dry breadiness links up with the scent as the first sips bring slim grain sweetness and a casual fructose underlay.

Saturating the middle palate with its dry sweetness, acidity and fruit influence, its culmination is of mango, passionfruit, lemon and lime. The tanginess of dry white wine permeates the soft tissues of the mouth and rewards the mouth with high refreshment that's highlighted with the beer's racing effervescence.

With a quick, dry and fleeting finish looming, the beer's sweetness is a far memory as sharp crabapple tang and white pepper spice close the session with a spicy, sour, and fruity aftergow, and with echoes of something akin to "sweetheart" candies delivering one last wave.

Persimmon Ship is straw golden as it glugs into the glass but as it fills takes on more of a nectarine hue. A crisp white head forms on the pour a couple fingers in height and wastes no time becoming creamy and nearly meringue-like. The foam never falls below a chunky cap and the lacing left clung to the glass shows peaks and valleys.

The nose is flooded with that softly sweet persimmon-y goodness. The only reason I know it so well is that I've been eating a lot lately. Dragonfruit adds a hint of tropical sweetness on the backend. And of course that signature Jolly Pumpkin funk is present. There's a whisper of barnyard but more of the wildflower, pollen, wet hay variety. A good whiff gets me salivating.

The aforementioned Jolly Pumpkin funk leads the way in the flavor department. There's a touch of pineapple mid-palate with soft acidity on the backend. While the persimmon was larger on the nose the dragonfruit is more dominant in the flavor, though only popping up after the swallow to leave behind a ghost-like tropical sweetness. It's nice and unexpected. It has a nice play on sweet & sour.

Jolly Pumpkin does a great job at dialing in the mouthfeel. The body is light as it should be. Dryness takes over on the swallow with a bit of tannins on the teeth. A touch of sour runs down the throat while spritzy carbonation and the dryness accentuates it. Absurdly drinkable.

Yet another all around delicious beer from the folks at Jolly Pumpkin with some help from Upland.. Persimmon is a really great, unique fruit and I'm happy to see it used. Persimmon Ship is funky and bright, fruity and delicious, spritzy and dry. I'm a big fan. Thanks for pointing this one out Matt & Chris!

Dry and tart but not as intense as some of their other beers. There's a faint sweetness to round the middle along with a light fruitiness that carries into the finish. A bit of barrel character comes through as well.

Crystal clear straw colored body with effervescent head that held pretty well before settling into a clingy collar and faint wisps. Aroma is funky: lemon, faintly bready, and grassy. Taste is bright lemon, persimmon, and grapefruit with a cheesy funk. I wasn't super familiar with persimmons except for a few trees around my girlfriend's grandparent's house. Nice and light on the tongue with citrus tartness and high carbonation.
