I picked up a bottle of Jolly Pumpkin's Rosie Del Barrio for $13.99 at The Lager Mill. This one caught my eye and I'm always down to try a new beer from JP, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 750ml bottle into a teku.

A- The label looks good, it's goes well with the beer and it's eye catching. It poured a fairly clear amber red color that takes on more of a golden orange color when held to the light and it had two and half fingers worth of fluffy and slightly creamy off white head that died down to a thick ring that stayed till the end and it left some patchy rings of lacing behind. This is a very nice looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a big stone fruit aroma being the first to show up and it imparts a nice pear and light apricot aroma with some nice stone fruit flavors coming through and it's followed by the yeast which is just a little funky with a little bit of that JP signature funky with a little wet straw and barn yard like aromas. Up next comes a little bit of a soapy aroma and light boozy aroma that leads into the malts which impart a sweet malt, pale malt, grainy and light caramel malt like aroma with a little more funk and fruit towards the end. This beer has pretty nice aroma, it's got a nice fruit and funk combo, but it's not all that unique for a JP beer.

T- The taste seems to be fairly similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the stone fruit aromas being the first to show up and it impart all the nice stone fruit aspects that they did in the aroma with no single aspect sticking out the most. Up next comes a medium amount of sourness that goes into that signature JP funk and it shows up just enough and it imparts all the same aspects. Towards the end comes the malts which impart all the same malty aspects that they did in the aroma with less sweet malts showing up this time. On the finish the sour lingers just for a second and it has a light booze, stone fruit, malty and funky yeast aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting jP, the flavors are well balanced, but the boozy aspects is the only thing that makes it unique.

M- Pretty crisp, a little prickly, a little dry on the finish, not overly sour, on the thicker side of being medium bodied, just slightly boozy and it has a higher amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and a nice example of the style, it's pretty standard for a JP beer and it seems like the aspect that sticks out the most about it to make it a little unique is the high alcohol content. This beer had ok drinkability, one glass is enough for me, the strong alcohol makes it less drinkable than most JP beers. What I like the most about this beer was the balanced of flavors, no flavor ever got to be too overpowering. What I like the least about this beer was that it wasn't too unique and not much made it stick out from all the other JP beers. I'm not sure I would buy this again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I would recommend it if your looking for a pretty standard JP beer with more alcohol than normal. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think it just needed something else to help set it apart. It's not a favorite JP beer and it's a little above average for the style. Nice job guys, but I wish it still stood out more from the rest of their lineup.

A: The beer is very hazy amber yellow in color—too hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down a bit, but consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of sourness and funk are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste starts off with some funky flavors and has notes of oak along with notes of plums and peaches.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonaiton.
O: This beer has a nice balance between the funk and the fruity flavors.

Smells funky. The taste is not as sour. Some latex, but in a good way.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/26/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas big tart lemon, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum, pear, apple, peach, apricot, white wine, orange peel, white pepper, toasted oak, hay, funk, leather, biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, plum, pear, apple, peach, apricot, white wine, orange peel, white pepper, toasted oak, hay, funk, leather, biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate tartness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart lemon, berry, cherry, plum, pear, apple, peach, apricot, white wine, orange peel, white pepper, toasted oak, hay, funk, leather, biscuit, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/tannic/spicy balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately grainy/bready, and sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wild amber ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on with the balanced tart/tannic flavors. A very enjoyable offering.
