$ 16.19 (including tax)/750 mL bottle ($ 0.637/oz) at Oppermann’s, Saginaw, MI
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – sour, oaky
Head average (Maximum 3.7cm, aggressive pour), off white, creamy with rocks, diminishing to an irregular three to five mm ring and thin layer with rocky outcroppings
Lacing poor. Some slight dragging of the ring which quickly rejoins
Body – medium orange, hazy, effervescent (bottle conditioned)
Flavor – definitely sour, mulled spices with no particular flavor, don’t really notice any chestnut but the tannin and vanillin from the oak come through; no malt, no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate – medium, watery, soft fuzzy carbonation

A pleasant sour which is another that would make a good gateway into sours for those who think they don’t like sours. However, the price may keep some experimenters away.

Copper colored with great clarity. The beer became hazier with each pour. There's a fingernail of off white to beige resting on top. The aroma is a very welcoming blend of woodsy oak, caramel, and notes of pear, blackberry, and raspberries. You really taste the chestnuts and the oak in the front of the palate. In the middle and the finish you get those tart fruity blackberry to merlot flavors. The mouth is moderately carbonated and very dry.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip

L: Pours a clear medium golden brown color. Two fingers of fizzy white head. Falls quickly with great lacing.

S: Sharp and acidic... Belgian spices. Tart with a dash of funk. A little fruity.

T/F: Malty and fruity at first... giving way to a sharp acidity but not sour per se. Apple cider vinegar, a bit spicy, and a nice sweet/tart battle on the tastebuds. Ample carbonation... a little fizzy and thin in body. Finish is sharp and tart. Leaves a sticky residue on your tongue.

O: A very tasty beer, and I love the mix of sweet/tart that this brings to the table. Reminds me a bit of the Duchesse, but slightly less sweet. Overall an A+ effort. Very glad I snagged the bottle.

This review is for a bottle from Oct 2011 that was poured into a tulip glass.

Smell - Belgian spices and a bit of funk
Taste - The taste is dominated by a mixture of the Belgian spices and a pleasant amount of sour acidity. The funk is also present, but it's not dominant.
Mouthfeel - This is my only complaint. It feels a little on the thin side.
Overall - It's quite good. This is my first Bière de Garde, so I don't have a great point of reference for comparison. I would be interested to try a younger bottle to see how much the aging has changed it. I'm glad I got it.

Golden with a firey hue, lots of carbonation, and 3 fingers of gold tinged head.

Smells of sour notes, an oak aged quality, and hints of melon and snow.

Woah. That is a beautiful beer. The sourness, melon, and barrel aged notes all come in along with a mellow, light quality that is so appealing. A hint of alcohol.

The body feels light, so light its dangerous. Feels like a session ale, with an ABV of 6.1%.

Amazing brew. Kudos to Jolly Pumpkin. Such a light and refreshing feel, great flavours, and all round amazing! Got at Oppermans Cork and Ale yesterday, drinking Oct 5th, 2016 in Birch Run Michigan.

Fresh, foamy, red. Not crazy about the spices, but definitely drinkable.

Pours the color of autumn, a rich orange brown. Head is off-white and it does leave some scattered lacing behind. Some chill haze but the light really shines through, at least on the initial pour. The end of the bottle brings the yeast and looks like unfiltered apple cider (great stuff if you can find it).
Smell is nicely funky with some malt and oak and maybe some hazelnuts(?) and spice.
Taste is similar, funk forward with lighter notes of malt, oak and spice. Balance is good.
Body is light, effervescence is fairly pronounced. Finish is cleaner than expected. All told, a damned fine beer.
