Huge thanks to Jim for this bottle. Served in a Jolly Pumpkin tulip. Pours a dark golden color with a few bubbles on top. Extremely mellow nose. Very smooth. Oxidized malt with cherry, vanilla, and oak. Smooth. Light acidity. Nose was better than the flavor, where it fell apart a bit. I bet this was quite good in its prime, but it’s over the hill by now.

Beer shared at a recent tasting, thanks. Beer is amber and hazy with almost no head, low carbonation, no lacing.

Aroma is oak, musky, cherries, funk.

Beer is musky and a little sweet, faint cherries in the back, this was probably way way way better several years ago but there is a shadow of that greatness just beneath the surface. I don't think I'd have it again.

Shared by Thorpe429. A nice and unexpected surprise.

The beer is light chestnut / amber / crimson hued (I need to learn my colors, apparently) with a small head. The aroma offers funk, must, old cherries, fruit. The flavor is a bit odd. Lots of wood emerges in the flavor, overpowering the beer. A bit tannic with some odd flavors. Still, intriguing and flavorful. A bit unbalanced. Some darker malts and hints of nail polish. Overall, this was just OK.

Clear orange copper pour, scant head. Nose is herbal, dry, minty. Not much sugar left, and something kind of weird in there. Flavor is empty, devoid of sugars or yeast qualities. Some light dry fruits, kind of papery. Not sour, fruity, funky, flavorful in any way, with a weird bready, cognac like aspect.

Thanks goes to Jason to brining this to WLV for the tasting. Never thought I'd get a chance to try this one, but my fellow Chicago BA's never cease to amaze me. 12oz bottle into wine glass.

A - Pours a mirky copper/mud color, cream-colored head, some bubbles here and there, and some spotty lacing along the sides of the glass.

S - Lots of oak, dark fruits, slight bourbon, some spices, cinnamon. No real signs of any sour/tart or funk.

T - Caramel apples, buttery notes, lots of oak, slight sweet spice. Much like the nose, no real sour/tart/funk to report.

M - Light, low bubbly carbonation, slightly dry finish.

D - I was good with my sample and didn't care for much more. I'm glad I was able to try it, but it's not something I'd seek out again unless I was presented another bottle randomly.

375ml bottle given to me by my boy Papajcik...Pours a dark muddy orange with notes of copper. A big finger of off white head, pretty good retention...Aroma stunningly lacking a ton of oak, wood notes are there with bourbon, and tart fruits, but not very sour?...The taste keeps me surprised again as its not that sour. Caramel, bourbon, spice, with some tart notes. Not a puckerer at all and the thing I do like is that its not the typical Jolly Pumpkin oak sour flavor.

Not bad but nothing special, maybe its not aging well?

Batch 1 served in a tasting snifter. Big thanks to Northernbrews for contributing this to the tasting last weekend.

A - Nice looking brew here with a finger of off-white foam that dissipates to a thin collar and touches of haze and minimal spotty lace. Dark transparent caramel-orange color.

S - Tart Granny Smith apples, bourbon, spicey wood, char, and caramel. Very nice collection of well-balance flavors. Not a ton of sourness here.

T - Taste is more of a caramel golden ale, with light sour and tart notes and a tannic finish. Reminds me of Perseguidor 5, but with a little more bite to it. The fact that this is sort of mellow is excusable considering the age on it. You can tell this is a simpler blend though (think it was just La Roja and Bam aged for extra long).

M - Lower carbonation, refreshing, medium body, and a dry finish that morphs into a clean aftertaste. I can see this benefiting from a touch more spritz, but otherwise it's quite enjoyable.

D - I could have had all 12oz to myself without much trouble. The flavors are well-attenuated, and no domain ever gets too fatiguing. A nice Jolly Pumpkin brew, but not that much more exciting than their usual offerings.

Thanks OHLrangers for this one.

Small capped bottle poured into a tulip.
Hazy dark golden, nice white head with average retention, good lacing.
Nice aroma, musty, acidic and tangy, fruity with multiple different layers.
Nicely refreshing, well carbonated mouthfeel adding a zip to it, opening to a very fruity beer, acidic and tart. Multiple different fruits keep coming and going, from oranges to berries, and lots of diffrent ones in between.
A very nice beer that could age well, assuming I was lucky enough to have more.

Thanks to autumnaldave for giving me this at DLD 2008. This bottle says 2006 on the gold sticker, not sure which batch that is.

Rusted amber hue, mostly clear, pencil thin ring of foam. Carbonation is very subtle. Vinegary bouquet of cherry fruit, mostly sour with some light sweetness also. Very much looks and smells like a Flanders Red.

I get a good sense of the acidity on the first sip but the tartness is very downplayed. Faint cherry flavors give way to an out of place bitterness in the finish with some alcohol flavor coming through. Overall the fruit/tart flavors seem muted, and I wonder if I have allowed it to mellow too long? The mouthfeel has a decent touch of carbonation with a thin body.

Was glad to try such a rare beer but it didn't impress that much. Perhaps it would be better fresher, but I would have thought a sour ale could last much more than 3 years...

Draft sample of Batch 1 at MBGF.

Poured hazy amber color with a minimal fizzy off-white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing.

Moderate tart citrus earthy woody aroma.

Medium body.

Medium sour flavor with a light bitter finish of moderate duration.

My expectations where met with another good JP brew.

Brown red, with no head. Aromas of funky socks, cheese, tart vinegar, OAK,acetic acid, over ripe fruit and brett/lacto funk. Taste is funky, sharp chedder cheese and malt vinegar laden with a nice mid and back palate of fruit, brett laden funk and OAK. Finish is dry and abrasive, but smooths out in the end. Mouthfeel is filling and the flavors linger. Drinkability is nice as well. Certainly funky and well blended, however it just seemed mediocre when rated to style.

This is a FANTASTIC and extremely well-rounded brew! Excellent job by JP.

A- Pours a very dark golden color with a thick ring of foam around the edge of the glass.

S- Alcohol hits the nose first, but there is so much beyond the initial booziness. Sour brett comes through strong, but subtle notes of vanilla, oak, and peat come through.

T- I was floored by the complexity of this sour. The sourness is certainly in the foreground but without dominating the beer at all. Herbal, woodsy notes are balanced by an earthy quality. Hints of oak, vanilla, and pepper are noted. The alcohol presence is there, but not hot. Rather, it adds to the subtle sweetness of the beer.

M- Crisp with a lingering complex finish.

D- Exceptionally smooth and drinkable. The incredible balance of the beer makes it so pleasant.
