This is one of the better saisons I have tried. Not too bitter or sour. Instead it finds the perfect middle ground. Lots of carbonation here which fits well with the citrusy taste. A really tasty, refreshing beer

A: A hazy, medium copper ale with a fairly deep red hue. The persistent head pours with about a finger of rocky, ecru colored head tinted with a touch of red that leaves some thick ropes of lacing on the glass.

S: Aromas of brett and hibiscus a prominent along with some light fruit aromas. A fruity and herbal nose backed by a solid barnyard funk. There is a light spicy hops note, a slight oak character when it warms and little malt character.

T: A firm tartness with a citrus zest bitterness dominates giving the impression of equal parts brett, rose hips and hibiscus contributing the funky bitterness. The balance is firmly bitter with a There is a soft malt character in the front and middle but it ends fairly dry with an aftertaste of herbal and citrus peel-like bitterness.

M: A fluffy medium light bodied beer with a strong level of carbonation that gets just a little prickle on the tip of the tongue.

O: The saison base is exceptional on it's own with a some sourness and barrel character but I really like is the interaction of flavors between the hibiscus and rose hips when added to a soured beer. Jolly Pumpkin beers are always a treat and this one is right up there with their best; thanks Dude!

Look is reddish/copper with thin head that dissipates to a ring that leaves a nice lace.

Smell is tart cherries, and that dominates the taste as well. It's not overly sour, and would probably be a good entry point for someone trying sours for the first time.

Feel is pretty full bodied for a saison. Oily feel that had a long finish that turns fairly sweet once the tartness has settled on your palate.

Overall, a tasty beer from JP that is not terribly complex, but enjoyable.

I walked into my new favorite beer store and saw this beautiful woman calling my name, in other words great label. I split the bottle into snifter's between friends and was greeted with a red tinged white head that dissipated quickly. The brew itself was a burgundy red in color with great carbonation.

The fragrance funky brett hits you in your face like most JP brews. One of the guy's picked up on the rose hips and hibiscus right away but I had to let mine warm to get it. This is a very flavorful Saison, light and fruity a little grassy as well. It reminds me of springtime in a bottle the brett character is right on for this brew adding just another perfect dimension to it. The carbonation was spot on making this beer light and crisp.

I still haven't found a JP that I didn't like and I'll put this one at the top of the pack as my favorite so far.

Blend 7/8 Bottled 2/3/11

I thought I had missed this beer and low and behold I found it at one of my locals. I would have been really dissapointed not to get to try a fantatic saison by one of the best American brewers of Saisons.

Poured a capped 750ml into my Hennepin globe. This beer pours a amber honey with a massive 4 inch head that leaves some serious lacing down the sides of the glass. The head retention is fantastic. About a 1/2 inch of a foamy cap always sticks around for the entirety of the bottle. The aroma is amazing. Up front is a nice earthy brett. Damp earth with just a little must. I like to call it old closet. Layers of smells underneath the brett. Up front, are sweet berries almost a mix between strawberries and raspberries. Just a bit of sweet tartness. Underneath that you get a bit of honey with a subtle grassy/graininess. With the first sip, you get a big brett presence. I wonder what brett strains they used. Up front I get a bit of damp earth mixed with musty clothes. Then there is this tropical fruit sweetness, almost along the lines of pineapple. Several flavors work well with the brett. There is a nice floralness that I cant pinpoint if it actually comes from the rose/hibiscus or is a result of some sort of hop they use. Really amazing. The mouthfeel is creamy up front and finishes a bit dry. I wish it finished just a bit drier but honestly that's a little thing. Overall, its another fantastic beer by Jolly Pumpkin.

750ml bottle poured into a Tulip glass

A: Pours a dark pink ruby color with a nice sized white head. Nice lacing and head retention. Good amount of carbonation.

S: I get big floral notes. The rose hips, pedals, and hibiscus used during brewing are all present. Also a little bit of fruit and earthy saison yeast.

T: Everything from the aroma is there in the taste with a touch of sour funk. Also lightly tart and a tad drying

M: Light to medium body with a nice amount of carbonation. Perfect for a hot day.

O: Overall I enjoyed this. The flowers added a nice unique character to the beer. Not an everyday saison but definately worth seeking out to try.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this beer which has been on my want list.

The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of citrus, pepper and some yeast - along with some tartness. The flavor is oranges, yeast, pepper, roses and flowers. There is a little bit of tartness, but it is not a sour beer. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

A very nice saison.
