750 ml bottle into tulip glass; blend 2, bottled 4/8/2015. Pours slightly hazy reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sweet/tart cherry, cranberry, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, brown sugar, toasted oak, peppercorn, light red wine vinegar, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, cherry juice, oak, and moderate malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sweet/tart cherry, cranberry, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, brown sugar, toasted oak, peppercorn, light red wine vinegar, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate amount of fruity/earthy tartness and spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, cranberry, lemon, green apple, plum, red grape, brown sugar, toasted oak, peppercorn, light vinegar, leather, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, cherry juicy, oak, and moderate malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately acidic/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an awesome fruited sour red ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, cherry juice, oak, and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth to drink with the moderate acidity. This was pretty much identical in complexity to regular La Roja; but you get stronger sweet/tart cherry flavors, that are still well balanced with the rest of the beer. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

750 ml bottle - Bottled on 01/19/2018:

Pours clouded amber with a thin off-white lasting head. Spotted lacing stick.

The smell is of oak, tart cherry, hint of caramel.

The taste is of tart cherries, oak/vanilla. Some biscuit/bread gives it something of a cherry pie character. Refreshingly sour/tart/dry finish.

It is on the lighter side of medium-bodied. Effervescent without being too fizzy. Nice carbonation level for this brew.

Alcohol well-covered,

It has a sout/tart character mixed with just the right amount of sweetness with dryness in the finish. Cherries and oak-aging both used very well

This was not what I expected. Hopefully I had a bad bottle for the beers sake. It was a nice rose red. Smelled of awful feet and was a gusher. Taste was unbearable. Drain poor

This is a really sour sour. A little too unsubtle in how sour this one is, while at the same time being slightly disappointing in the lack of cherries coming through in the flavor. Overall, still a pretty decent sour.

It seems that this is the first review of a bottled La Roja Du Kriek (I think this year is the first time they have bottled this and distributed?). All of the past reviews refer to the beer being served at festivals or at the brewery from a cask/firkin. So here goes.

Appearance - 3.75/5
Poured into a 13oz Belgian tulip glass. A muddy red-orange-brown, with about a finger or so of light tan head. Basically looks the same as a normal La Roja.

Smell - 4.25/5
Standard JP sour aromas--tart cherries, apples, and lemons with a little bit of funk. I was expecting the cherry to stand out a little more here than in standard La Roja, due to the additional cherry juice, but it doesn't smell any different from what I remember normal La Roja smelling like. Still quite a delicious and appetizing aroma.

Taste - 4.25/5
More tart than standard La Roja. Lots of lemons and cherries and general tart fruit. I definitely detect the cherries standing out more in the taste, which is good. One thing I liked about La Roja was that it was different from JPs other offerings. Not as tart, with a distinct flavor as well. I feel like with this beer, they took La Roja, and made it just taste more like the rest of the JP beers, thus taking away some of La Roja's uniqueness. That loses a few points in my book. Don't get me wrong, it still tastes great, it's just a La Roja homogenized towards the standard JP taste.

Mouthfeel - 4/5
A medium amount of medium-light carbonation. Medium bodied. A good level of crispness.

Overall - 4/5
I find it interesting that this beer was priced a few dollars cheaper than La Roja. I would expect it to be more pricey, considering its aged La Roja with additional ingrediants. Perhaps just a marketing thing to try and sell a new beer. Anyway, this beer was delicious, as all JP beers are. But as typical, nothing special that blew my mind away. Just more of their standard formula. As I say, half-jokingly, if you've had one JP beer you've had them all. This one is definitely worth a try, as perhaps those with more sophisticated palates than mine will be able to detect additional nuances not present in other JP beers.
