Notes / Commercial Description:
Sour, barrel-aged version of the beer by the same name. Brewed in collaboration with Maui brewing.

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Working with Ron is something I’ve always want to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

A: poured a bright brown in color with reddish highlights and a nice half finger of head that left a little lacing sticking to the glass.

S: definitely lots going on in the aroma but consisted of acidic, hints of berries, cherries, citric, a little vinous character, but had vinegar undertones and good funky oaky barnyard notes.

T: the fruity berry cherry character was more apparent on the taste with a bretty funky oaky backbone alongside acidic, citrusy and vinous accents.

M: the brew was medium in body with a fair amount of. Carbonation which had slight sweet, mild fruity, oaky, funky, citrusy, tart and dry finish.

O: very interesting delicious beer that is definitely going to be on my must get list. Somebody mail me one.

S- there is not a very strong smell to this beer but you can definitely pick up on cherries.
T- the taste comes and goes very quickly. The cherries are very defined however there is little by way of the Hawaiian fruit that was used. I do wish that I had a bit more knowledge on the fruit and what it has addded to the beer.
M-there did not seem to be much by way of mouth feel in fact it was quite thin. There is however, somewhat of a sensation on the tip of the tongue.
O- I definitely recommend this beer for anyone who loves sours or even if you are a beginner. It is very good either way.

Bottled 5/09/12 - Blend 5

A: Pours a burnt orange, amber body. Fizzy, bubbly head forms and disappears quickly into a thin ring of bubbles. Cloudy. No lacing, as to be expected from style and ABV.

S: Lots of cherries, citrus and oak. Orange and grapefruit rind. Yeasty funk. Lots of tart smells.

T: Tart, strong funk. Sweet fruitiness. Lots of cherry and oak.

M: High carbonation. Dry, but crisp and refreshing. Light body.

O: The best offering I've had from Jolly Pumpkin. This was had great funk and sweet balance. Not too yeasty, but great tastes from the cherries and other fruits.
