Sour, barrel-aged version of the beer by the same name. Brewed in collaboration with Maui brewing.

Yes, Michigan and Hawaii are connected. It should be obvious to you now, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states, Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries and liliko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but no our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! -Ron

Working with Ron is something I’ve always want to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin beer. Years later, it’s a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer! -John

Blend 6: Bottled 05-10-2012

A: A clear tawny red brick rimmed with a scant bone white microfilm, poured initially with 2 -3 fingers of head, but showed little retention. As we pour through the drink the sediment builds and turns the brew mirky and less appealing.

S: Sour and tart with sour cherries and high notes of citrus with red berries and wet oak. Slight hints of red wine vinegar, the scent also suggests an aging process mixed with citrus tropical fruits.

T: Fresh and bright, the flavour burst with juicy tropical citrus notes. Mid-palette the aged oak comes through and offers a woody counter balance to the citrus. Sour fruits and a slight vinegar flavour is present on the back end, the flavour seems to grip the tongue in a dry white wine style.

M: Dry and refreshing the mouth feel reminds me of a crisp white Riesling - and moves through to a round smoothness at the end, I’m guessing due in part to the oak aging.

O: The tartness, fresh juice and oak roundness combine well offering a sour brew that session-able and enjoyable start to finish. The tart citrus is well balanced with the oak aging and mellows out the brew to an highly approachable drink.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of tart fruit with cherries notes and light funky notes. Taste is also dominated by tart cherry notes with some tart and sour notes with some light funky yeast notes in the finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice sour with oak, cherry and tart notes mixing well together.
