The beer pours a ruby red color with a thin offwhite lace head. The aroma is good. It has a nice malty scent that boasts of toasted malts and caramel malts. It seems quite sweet. The taste is decent. It has a dry, yet malty flavor that has a toasted aftertaste. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This is a decent beer, but nothing special.

Eye Candy: Amber-red with nice white fizzy 2 finger head. Decent retention with lacing.

The Nose Noses: Sweet malts but nothing special emerges.

Tonguland: I would describe this as a combo of a rye and their Amber. Smooth drinking, with a medium body. Medium roasted malt upfront, honey-like sweet middle, that gave way to bitter rye and finished medium-rich in typical Saranac fashion.

Bender Factor: I feel that aging and warming would help this out. A lot better than past Saranac seasonals.

Saranac Roggen Bock

A new offering from Saranac's holiday 12 pack.

Appearance- reddish amber with a weak fizzy head.
Smell- A slight rye/ carroway seed aroma. Light malt smell too.
Taste- very watery with a touch of rye flavor and a blend of weak hops and malt.

Overall- very similair to the Saranac Marzenbier. Once again mediocre at best. Won't try again though.

Appears as a typical red ale with a nice head and lacing--a bit hazy though. Rich smell with rye malts brewed only with German hops. Spiced flavor and robust after taste -- really sparkles on the tongue. I would recommend this to complement a spicy Chinese or Cajun dish. Enjoyed this from beginning to end.
