Pours with a billowing long lasting head. Subtle coffee aroma with a taste is more pronounced. Very much like a sweet iced coffee or a Coors Light with Kahlua added, one of my favorite drinks. If it is brewed with some form of coffee beans it would be a truly novel beer, but I wonder if it is just lager flavored with something like Kahlua as I have been doing for 25 years.

12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BB MAR 31 2017" and sampled on DEC 06 2016

Coffee lager? Coffee Lager? Who does a coffee lager???

Well I don't know where I stand on this beer overall, but the aroma is amazingly like fresh oily coffee beans. It's like being in a breakfast shop or the coffee aisle of an upscale grocery store with the beans in bins. And that carries over into the flavor. It's nutty and rich with a coffee bean flavor, but without the roastiness or acidity. I've never had a beer like it, so it at least gets points from me for originality. There's a bit of caramel to the maltiness as well, but it's clearly focused on the coffee. It's rounded and well balanced, and to that effect there are no real hop flavors which would throw it off. It's fantastic, and yet at the same time it's kind of a one-trick pony - the trick is great, fantastic even, but you get tired of it after time. Still, it's worth the price of admission. I've had six of these now and enjoyed every one, but I've never wanted to have a second one in a row. Worth trying to be sure!

Easy drinking coffee lager with a crisp toffee finish and a medium-roasted cocoa-like java. Aroma is all coffee, and not my favorite roast, but this uses decent beans.

L: Pours a copper amber. A tan, white bubbly head just covers the surface. It recedes to a ring.

S: Coffee.

T: Lots of coffee, but their is the typical bready lager taste in there too.

F: Crisp and smooth. Medium body with high carbonation.

O: A simple drinker and one dimensional, but it works.

L: Clear, dark amber with a finger of creamy beige head. Retention is brief, but there is some splotchy lacing left.

S: Smells like coffee grounds, pre-percolation, like when you just spoon them out into filter. Earthy, roasty, almost slightly nutty. A medium-roast coffee, not acrid or burnt, but not really green or fruity, either, though there is a subtle berry/cherry quality to it. There's also biscuit malt sweetness, a grainy, sweet cookie aroma. Think cookies and coffee.

T: Upfront, you get the amber lager character. Biscuit, brown sugar/sugar cookie, graininess, a crisp, clean lagering, earthy hops with hints of grapefruit pith. On the finish, the coffee character sneaks in, although more subtly than the aroma would indicate. It's a fresh medium-roast coffee, dry and rustic, with a bright cherry and nutty character, with a lingering earthy, toasty aftertaste.

F: Mouthfeel is medium, the carbonation is spot-on and it drinks very nicely.

O: A pleasant surprise. This is the first "light" coffee beer I've had so far that I thoroughly enjoy. Well done, Saranac!

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a beige/orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of coffee, caramel.Taste is of black coffee, little else. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not something I would want several of, but it is a unique beer worth trying.

This one pours a copper brownish-red, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

Smells like lots of roasty, slightly sweet coffee, toasted bread, caramel, and toffee.

It's surprising how good this is, considering it came from Saranac. There's a lot of coffee here, roasty, and slightly chocolatey sweet, with a nice caramel and toffee backbone, some nuttiness, and a hint of bitterness. It's simple, but done very well.

This is lighter bodied, with a very creamy mouthfeel.

This is one of the better beers I've had from Saranac in a while.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high beige head that gradually died down, eventually leaving just a thin collar around the edge of the glass and lots of lacy rings of bubbles down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with notes of coffee beans.
T: The taste starts off with flavors of caramel and toasted malts (and a bit of associated sweetness) and then transitions over to a mixture of malts with notes of cold brew coffee. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The coffee aromas and flavors in this beer aren't that strong, but lend some dimension to the smell and taste.

First impression - wow, freshest coffee smell and taste I have ever experienced in a beer.
Smell - all fresh coffee, nothing else.
Taste - coffee, fresh coffee, nothing else.
Feel - light bodied, lightly carbonated.
Look - dark Amber, like a cold-brewed coffee, with off-white head that holds on for a while.
Overall - easy drinking, very fresh coffee-tasting beer.
