The pour is coppery orange with a slight hue from the coffee they used, a chestnut brown . It seems suspended in the beer though. At the top mostly and although it has a hue it still meets the color for the style . 16 or 17 on the SRM chart even though with the chill on the glass, and the brown hue which hits the eye first, it can appear about 10 points higher up to 26 . Tan creamy head that lasts well and clings to the glass.

Nose is malty with a little richness to it and a slight touch of toast. The beer looks like a medium roasted coffee bean. Just red, so much vibrant color. Hops give a light peppery spice. Coffee is mellow but prominent. It does not push itself too far forward in the nose and does not hide under the malt either. There's a crisp smelling sweetness which is a defining character for the vienna lager. Earthy coffee and herbal starts to show a softness in the background.

Firm breaddy richness glides across the palate with a touch of soft light sweetness. Mellow coffee fills up the middle with a soft spoken hop that is pretty strong for the light flavors it gives. The carbonation is perfection. A light tingle. Just the smallest bite to showcase secondary flavors without letting them come to the forefront. The coffee is a secondary flavor. You might thinks this is drinking just a bit thinner than your usual lager but it's the dryness. The coffee has imparted dryness, the malts are dry and although they kiss you a bit in the finish with a little sweetness they also finish with hops to bitter your tongue. The flavor has become silken. Smooth round malt. The malty richness combines with the coffee so gently and so well.

The vienna lager presents a characteristic moment of sweetness in the finish that is the counterpoint to all that malty richness. The hops are are bold for thier use but not bold tasting. Their earth is sumptuous against the thinner less roasted coffee flavor. As you drink it gets richer not sweeter and the coffee does not exceed the modest hop. It does not give any roasted flavors. No caramel. No diacetyl, no dms. Impeccable brewing with all points in all categories for the veinna lager at the forefront using the addition of coffee.

Matt Brewing Co. "Saranac Cold Brew Coffee Lager"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BB MAR 31 2017" and sampled on DEC 06 2016

Coffee lager? Coffee Lager? Who does a coffee lager???

Well I don't know where I stand on this beer overall, but the aroma is amazingly like fresh oily coffee beans. It's like being in a breakfast shop or the coffee aisle of an upscale grocery store with the beans in bins. And that carries over into the flavor. It's nutty and rich with a coffee bean flavor, but without the roastiness or acidity. I've never had a beer like it, so it at least gets points from me for originality. There's a bit of caramel to the maltiness as well, but it's clearly focused on the coffee. It's rounded and well balanced, and to that effect there are no real hop flavors which would throw it off. It's fantastic, and yet at the same time it's kind of a one-trick pony - the trick is great, fantastic even, but you get tired of it after time. Still, it's worth the price of admission. I've had six of these now and enjoyed every one, but I've never wanted to have a second one in a row. Worth trying to be sure!

Easy drinking coffee lager with a crisp toffee finish and a medium-roasted cocoa-like java. Aroma is all coffee, and not my favorite roast, but this uses decent beans.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high beige head that gradually died down, eventually leaving just a thin collar around the edge of the glass and lots of lacy rings of bubbles down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with notes of coffee beans.
T: The taste starts off with flavors of caramel and toasted malts (and a bit of associated sweetness) and then transitions over to a mixture of malts with notes of cold brew coffee. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The coffee aromas and flavors in this beer aren't that strong, but lend some dimension to the smell and taste.

Drank straight from this 12 oz bottle at a Near Year's Party. I love my coffee in the morning, and this had some great coffee flavor, so beat my expectations. Pretty crazy as a lager as well.

Pours with a billowing long lasting head. Subtle coffee aroma with a taste is more pronounced. Very much like a sweet iced coffee or a Coors Light with Kahlua added, one of my favorite drinks. If it is brewed with some form of coffee beans it would be a truly novel beer, but I wonder if it is just lager flavored with something like Kahlua as I have been doing for 25 years.

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a beige/orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of coffee, caramel.Taste is of black coffee, little else. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not something I would want several of, but it is a unique beer worth trying.

12 oz can poured into a pub-style pint glass.

Apperance
Amber with 1-plus finger of creamy head. Good clarity with moderate carbonation.

Nose
Light roasted coffee & cream. Cold brew coffee, biscuit, and caramel. Brown sugar and cocoa.

Taste
Ultra-smooth light roast coffee & cream leaving behind a lactose sweetness. Biscuit and caramel maltiness. Hints of brown sugar and cocoa.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, crisp, smooth, and refreshing.

Overall
Amber lager meets cold brew coffee. Excellent and exactly what it should be.

This pours a malty amber in color. Cold brew aroma is present, dominates the nose. Coffee forward with a strong astringency finishing it off. Again, not as terrible as I would expect.
