Brew pours to a deep dark brown color, if not black with a fair sized tan head that had ok retention and did leave some lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma is pretty good, has some chocolate smells malt smells wrapped around earthy tones. Has a nice flavor to it, very dry with chocolate and coffee tastes prevalent. Over all I feel that this is a pretty good brew, room for improvement. Actually wish they would replace some of their regular brews with this one.

This pours an ink black with a nice head. The smell however ,is very slight and unappealing.I don't know what Saranac does, but all their beers smell horrible.A metalic, wet newspaper, cooked veggie smell. Not exactly looking forward to the taste. You can taste the coffee and chocolate in this. It's not as pronounced as good stouts, but for this brewery it does taste good.It has a very uneven, watery m/f,but it's still not that bad.
This is a good beer from Saranac, unfortunatley all their beers are below par so this is the tops.

This beer poured a VERY deep red-brown, with almost no head. A little more head would have been welcome, but the color was nice.

Aroma was of lightly roasted malts, with a hint of coffee, and some faint hops. Overall the smell was not strong. That seems common with Saranac beers.

Taste was of roasted malts and coffee, not overpowering.

Mouthfeel was smooth, yet surprisingly carbonated. Pretty interesting. It had some body.

Drinkability was good... better than their Belgian Ale I just had.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a nice roasted malt scent that boasts of black patent and roasted barley as well as oatmeal. It's dry and earthy. The taste is decent also. It has a dry, earthy flavor that boasts of patent and roasted malts. It is lighter than most, but it has a strong roasted quality. The mouthfeel is average. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate/good carbonation. This is a light oatmeal stout. It needs more body and less carbonation. Also, it should have more crystal and chocolate malts. I guess they think less is more (drinkability). They are wrong.

This poured a VERY dark red with a good uneven tan head. The aroma is roastey and chocoaltely with some caramel Hops. and coffee in the palate with a dry finish. Very light for a stout. In the taste we have some coffee and dark chocolate hints. Not very unique. Creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable. BUT!!! This doesn't taste like an oatmeal stout! It tastes like a weak porter.
