Notes / Commercial Description:
Few ingredients rival vanilla’s ability to add richness and roundness to food. Made with a traditional blend of caramel and chocolate malts plus roasted barley and a hint of vanilla. Vanilla Stout will surpass your expectations. Enjoy the brew on it’s own or with a bite of dark chocolate for a real treat.

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into a clear pint glass. No freshness date.

A: Nearly black with 2-3 finger tan head and good lacing as you'd expect froma stout.

S: Medium vanilla aroma is first to your nose followed by cocoa, coffee, and burnt caramel malt.

T: The taste is very medicinal and fusel alcohol until it warms somewhat. The vanilla flavor is dampened by warming and does deepen the overall impression of the beer's taste. Loads of burnt malts, coffee/capuccino, light chocolate, and roasted malt flavors as well with a slight leafy hops edge to the finish.

M: Quite dry for a sweeter-than-average stout. Also more carbonation than I would expect. Body is medium.

D: Not a bad stout but is surpassed by many others. I'm not sure vanilla works as well with the stout style as it does in porters.

Another new addition to Saranac's 12 Beers of Christmas variety pack.

Pours a pitch black color with a two-finger head that fades quick, leaving a bit of lacing on the glass.

Aroma has a faint hint of vanilla followed by chocolate and coffee in the nose.

Taste is smooth and creamy with the hint of vanilla upfront, followed by a decent taste of roasted coffee. The vanilla obviously doesn't dominate the palate but seems a bit weak.

Mouthfeel is weak vanilla and roasted coffee/chocolate flavors. Mouthfeel isn't too thin and lingers for a while.

Nice and drinkable stout here. Could use a bit more vanilla flavor. Being that they can make decent american stouts, I wonder what their imperial stout tastes like? Regardless, this is worth a try at least once.
