Notes / Commercial Description:
Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale is a traditional blonde ale with a kick of juicy blueberry. You'll notice a light golden haze from wheat malt and oats and a low hop bitterness, which really shows off the fruit. With a medium-light body and fresh blueberry flavor, we're sure we've captured refreshment in a bottle!

Appearance: Pours a hazed, golden body with a small, suspiciously creamy-looking white head.

Smell: Sweet-smelling aroma of blueberries. If you've smelled one blueberry ale, you've smelled them all, really.

Taste: Very lightly grainy, wheaty flavor with a pop of sweetness. Then, there's the expected, promised blueberry flavoring. Finishes, as expected, with a dose of sweetness and more blueberry flavoring. Yesiree, it's a blueberry ale!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation.

Drinkability: Sea Dog, Sweetwater Blue, Saranac Blueberry Blonde... they're all fairly interchangeable.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on May 1, 2012. The pour is a cloudy looking pale yellow with a quick head. The blueberry aroma takes over right after the bottle cap is removed. Once in the glass it seems to settle down to a more subtle blueberry on top of the pale malts, bread, and touch of citrus. The body is light. The taste is also of blueberry and pale malts with a tart character. These types of beers are always hard for me to review because they are low on my list of favorite styles.

12oz bottle from the 12 Beers of Summer '12 mix pack served in a standard pint glass.

L - hazed straw color with a whiteish head that thinned to just a ring.

S - you can smell the blueberries fo' sure.

T - not as much blueberry in the taste as the aroma which is ok by me. the wheat is noticable with the tartness of the fruit pushing it's way in on the finish, blueberry burps!

F - light, crisp and refreshing.

O - A different type of fruit beer that is worth a try.

Another light, fruity beer for the spring. Cloudy, pale blonde color with a very thin head.

Light, though still artificial blueberry essence shows up in the nose. There's a bit of hops underneath.

Average blueberry taste. Not as cloying as Sea Dog but not as refined as Bar Harbor. Also, why the clove? Thought this was a blonde ale?

Lingering blueberry essence, clove and what reluctantly appears to be wheat.

Another beer with a confused identity. Drinkable but nothing special.

12oz bottle poured into a goblet. No dating on the bottle

A: Pours a hazy straw color with a foamy 2 finger head. Lots of visible carbonation.

S: Fruity blueberry aroma. Hints of wheat and malt.

T: Pretty similar to the smell. Hits you with some blueberry before smoothing out with a malt aftertaste. Not as blueberry dominated as others of this style can be.

M: Light on the palette, good carbonation. Drinkable.

Overall not a bad beer. Blueberry beers can be quite iffy. This one isnt overpowering and is refreshing.
