A: The beer pours a brilliant clear amber color, darker than expected. A nice fluffy head of foam floats on top with decent retention.

S: Mild continental hops aroma with a slight musty note.

T: Crisp hop bite mid-tongue blends with a light maltiness. Finishes just a bit too dry for my tastes, but perfectly normal for a lager.

M: Just about what you'd expect from a lager... crisp, good carbonation, refreshing and dry finish.

D: Not my favorite style of beer, but a very drinkable brew. Good sessionable beer without any overwhelming aspects that would leave your tongue fatigued.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Color: Light amber with a huge frothy head and lacing on the bottle.

Aroma: Sweet and malty. Not overbearing. Smooth.

Taste: Sweet and malty upfront. Smooth with some hop bitterness. Not much to else to note. Smooth.

Mouthfeel: Sweet and malty with some bitterness.

Drinkability: Goes down smooth. Seems well-crafted. Almost average though. Nothing to really make it stand out. Great lawn mower beer though.

A semi-creamy, pinky finger head that died almost as it was born. Some good carbonation though on top of a mixed dark gold/reddish body and a little bit of lacings. A slightly citric hoppy smell dominates, with faint malts in the background of the beer's aroma. A matly presence is noticeable, something like coffee or toasted, mixed in with the earthy hops. This creates a medium body that has a semi-sweet (there is a tad bit of citrus to taste) taste but a finish that is a little too dry for my liking (no big payoff in the dry backbite). An alright beer and I'd recommend trying it, but not my first choice at all.

Pours golden amber and my beer had a small head and it fizzed to a lacing quickly, maybe a bad pour?

The smell is of yeast and malts. The taste is caramel, floral with light hops. The feel is a light metallic bitterness that caps off with good carbonation and a touch of hops. I could easily drink a few, especially on a really hot day.

Notes: I find this beer easily and very well priced, but this beer is not true to it's style, yet despite this I find it a good beer to have before I get serious and sip on some world class brew. Very light on hops but well balanced and a beautiful color.

Poured into a standard pint glass.

A - Golden amber coloration, big fluffy head of froth, great retention, spotted lacing.

S - Peanuts and hops, odd as it may sound...

T - Slightly unbalanced sweet profile with a moderately hoppy and dry finish. There is something out of place that I can't put my finger on, but oh well, it isn't bad.

M - Light bodied, mild carbonation, no residues or even aftertastes, clean finish, presto. Pretty average.

D - Enjoyable, for it's uniqueness if nothing else. Not a bad brew, and one I wouldn't mind revisiting, worth trying.

A nice looking amber colored lager with a decent off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt with some hop presence. Taste is earthy, some dark caramel notes and a noticeable hop finish. I'm no expert but it seems out of character for the style.

This is a good beer, with some body but definitely drinkable. Love most of the beers in this sample pack any time of year.

Bottle thanks to davehoward
Very pale, transluscent amber with a small white head. Smell is a touch metallic, and lager yeast mostly with a bit of malt. Taste is fairly standard light malt with a pleasant slight touch of tartness and a hint of yeast. Mild to medium bitterness in the finish. Somewhat thin flavored but medium body that is crisp and clean. Not bad at all, but doesn't stand out too much. Still an enjoyable, unoffensive, easy drinking beer. Thanks dave!

A - Pours a rich golden amber w subtle golden undertones... Limited head and lace...

S - For subtle malt aroma... Not much else...

T - Dry hops are the first thing you taste, followed by citrus undertones... Given the aroma, I expected to taste malt which never materialized on my pallet

M - Medium bodied and smooth... The perfect amount of carbonation I like dances on your tongue...

D - Refreshing, but a little more more hoppy and bitter than I expect from a lager

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

This beer strikes me more as a Vienna Lager than a Pilsner, but whatever. This beer seems to be just about the perfect craft beer gateway brew. It reminds me of Dos Equis with a dash more character. It features some wonderful noble hop character with a very clean finish that makes you want more and more.

This is the normal Saranac that you'll find on tap at most bars in CNY... I've drank it on many occasions, and decided to review it.

A- Pours a nice honey amber.... Perfect carbonation... 2 finger head sizzles out into nice lacing as you drink.

S- Malt... nothing real strong or complex... hops is there too.... yeast as well. *shrugs shoulders... Nothing to write home to Mom about.

T/M- Very smooth. A nice hearty malt starts this lager off, and it ends with a nice little hop bite. Light body, but a little more to it than a typical lager. Very well balanced.

D- I'd select this at a bar on tap against any macro anyday. I often rotate back and forth between this and Sam Adams at bars with moderate selection.... they complement eachother well, and are highly drinkable

A: A decent looking off-white head... more than I imagined, some nice lacing going on.

S: A nice, sweet nose of malts.

T: This got a little interesting. Very toasted malts, followed by something of a metallic taste & bitter hops. Maybe a little harsh, but I don't know if I would go so far as to say it's particularly unbalanced.

M: Medium bodied, a little foamy feeling and somewhat chewy.

D: A decent effort, but a little unusual tasting. If I were going for an easy-to-find, mid-priced pack in the grocery store, I would likely lean more towards Sam Adams or Magic Hat. It would be a maybe on getting another one of these, I think.

Very nice looking amber in color formed a decent white head. Smell very malty not much hops. Taste not bad a little bitterness up front lots of malt a little nutty. Mouthfeel mediem in body and carbonation. Drinkability was ok its not the greatest beer in the world but I could have a few.

Eye: This is one fine looking beer. The beer itself is a clear golden liquid with copper highlights with lively looking carbonation. Head is creamy looking with some damn good lacing. Retention on this beer is great. Once the beer starts to be drunk it looses its grandeur a bit, but still has excellent retention and lacing still looks good.

Nose: Great malt backbone on this beer, slightly nutty it comes through supporting a nice citrus hop aroma. Not nearly as potent as I would like, but it'll do. Not much more to it.

Tongue: This is one balanced beer, upfront there is a light citrus/floral hop taste as well as some upfront bitterness which is soon balanced out by the strong malt (and nutty) backbone. Very simple beer-Less can be more and small can be beautiful.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: This one is medium in the mouth, actually I find it heavier than most other pils. This is an extremely drinkable beer, just about appeals to everyone I should say. Not necessarily one I'd pick up again, but still if I'm in the mood for a German Pils this might be the one I pick up If I can't get my hands on Victory's Prima Pils.

Saranac tends to be hit or miss, IMO. Unfortunately, this one is one of the misses. There is an immediate sourness upfront, without much else. Body is actually quite good, but the acidic nature of the beer takes away from the overall mouthfeel.

Overall, there really wasn't much I liked about this one.

Pours a clear amber. Very small head that quickly leaves. Nose is like a mix of leaves and sugar. In a baked sense I would say. Overall, not much to it. Flavor is almost acidic with it's bitter tone at first. Then it calms and gets into more of a earthy and slightly dirty lager profile. I mean to me there just isn't anything that distinctive about it. Feel is decent. Drinkability is on the same level. It is just a standard old lager really. It has a nice body to it sure, but there just isn't anything exciting about it at all.

Pale amber color, brilliant clarity, fairly large, creamy head with good retention (I did let this beer warm up quite a bit)

Subtle malt aroma, and a bit of a noble hop aroma. Overall very clean, and minimal aroma in general.

Initial flavor sensation is balance, with hop flavor and bitterness balancing out any maltiness. A slightly vegetal character, and a bit bland. Finishes with a lingering, slightly unpleasant bitterness.

Medium body and carbonation, but lingering bitterness has negative mouthfeel associated with it.

Lingering bitterness might cut down on drinkability, but otherwise a somewhat more interesting lager than the big boys produce.

This beer poured an amber color with a big fluffy four-finger head. The smell is a pleasant bready maltiness with a hint of floral hops. The taste starts off with some sweet maltiness that is quickly cut by a couple different kinds of hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is average with a middling amount of carbonation. I'd consider this to be a very drinkable lager that I could see myself knocking back a couple of.

Another sample from the sample pack. The appearance was great; murky and golden with a foamy head that thins out slowly. The smell was thin was satisfying to the senses. Hops with balanced malts give it a bitterish aroma. The taste is surprisingly sweet that is wonderfully thin from the mouthfeel. It is definitely a refreshing, smooth taste with great lager balances over all its flavors. This is another great one from Saranac.

I picked this up as part of a six pack sampler of several of the Saranac brews. Mix-sixers are a great idea that more brewers should try. Sam Adams does the sesonal 12 packs, but I like the idea of a six pack better, because who wants to be stuck with two of SA's horrible cranberry lambic.

A- Anyhow, this one is a very light amber -gold hue that is only very slightly hazy. A one finger head goes away within a minute or two, and lots of nice sticky lace coats the glass.

S - Metallic well-water or mineral water notes ride atop a gentle caramel malt aroma. The metallic notes are really killing this one for me.

T - Again, metallic like the nose. This has that "river bottom silt and sand" flavor that I taste in SA lager. But whereas that works for SA, this isn't quite as good.

M - Medium bodied and weighty with a gritty, sandy solidity on the tongue. This is a hefty lager with an of-dry finish.

D - I really don't like this. I've also got a bone to pick with the style that this is listed under. German pils? No way. I think that this is more of a Vienna Lager than anything.

Thin but bubbly head that lasts. The caramel color seems a little dark for a typical pils, however.

Smell is a lot of malt with a little sour tinge to it. Not sure if that's supposed to be there, but decent nonetheless.

Pretty tasty, very malty with a decent bit of roast and some depth to it. Flavorful but not too complicated.

It was pretty right on with the carbonation. Bubbly but not spritzy and drying enough to make the flavor vanish pretty quickly.

I can see myself picking this one up if I were in the mood. It's a little too malty, but a tasty and cheap craft brew.

Pours clean and clear, with a solid amber hue that is much richer than a typical American lager's.

Smells grainy with a clear hint of hops.

Tastes smooth and crisp. Only once have I had a bad experience with this beer - usually it's perfect on-tap, but one draft I had took on a slightly metallic taste.

The beer is the perfect complement to a summer bbq. Despite its light mouthfeel, the beer is surprisingly heavy. One or two compliments a meal nicely.

This was # 2 from their sampler pack; pours a clear light orange color w/ a light off-white head which dissapates quickly, little lacing; a strong hop aroma w/ slight less malt than boasted; the hop flavor hits you right away, really overpowers the malts; nice med. body, though, with a dextinous finish, not what you'd expect considering the lack of malt flavor, actually needs to be a bit drier for a pils; not an undrinkable, though, i'd drink a few of these during a hockey game or something..

Another beer from the Adirondack mix pack. It pours with a fluffy head, good retention and lacing. Has a clear amber color, a pretty good looking beer.

Smells of malt, earthy hops, nothing glamorous just straight forward and fresh ( a step above macro).

Tastes rather simple like the nose. Has a bready malt taste and light citric hop taste. I could enjoy this one after a hike or at camp.

Single bottle bought at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, NY.

This poured a Beautiful amber color with abundant lacing, smell is a nice malt and hop aroma, Hops are subtle in the flavor mostly dominated by malty goodness, This beer is incredibly refreshing and drinkable. This is my second from this brewer and so far I'm rather impressed. My next trip down will definitely consist of some of this again.
