This place was listed in the yellow pages as having over 1000 different kinds of beer. It's got a lot but I doubt it's 1000. They have a good selection of east coast microbrews and a decent import selection, except their Belgian section could use a LOT of work. It was nice to see some single bottles available to buy, which wasn't the case in the other Baltimore stores. They have some beer cold, but most is out on shelves. The staff was fairly helpful in finding some items. If you're in the Baltimore area, come here for singles of micros, but go elsewhere for your rare imports.

PROS:
The cheapest beer in the area by far. The cheapest I have found in the mid-Atlantic. In early 2017, it's like Indiana prices in 2013.

Big selection.

Nice staff.

CONS:
Parking is a nightmare, as is getting in or out. It's right off a highway with a median so you need to strategize your drive.

While large, the selection is not that well curated.

Rotation of stock is bad. I almost bought a Duck Rabbit brown sixer that was at least 18 months old.

OVERALL
If you're around Baltimore, your choices for good beer shops are one of the Total Wine stores, or the Wine Source in Hampden. The Wine Source is more tailored to upper class epicurean types, and the decor is cleaner. They also get in way more rare and one-off stuff from brewers. Total Wine is more middle class. The insides are dingier. It is not fancy looking. And you might buy beer that is wicked stale. But it's CHEAP. And if you know what you're doing you will walk out happy.

As some others have said, this is a go-to. Beer selection is solid. Occasionally, you'll find some real gems (I was lucky enough to stumble upon a bottle of Stickee Monkee a couple months back. Bottom line is, you want a pretty decent size variety of beers at a good price, TW is your place. And yes, parking can be a nightmare...

Ok, parking lot can be a clusterf#%, and I've had to park quite a distance around the back of the building. I'm not opposed to walking, but they sell liquids. Liquids are heavy. Sure, there are carts, but then we're taking another trip to return. Honestly, this is not as big a deal as I'm making it sound. I like walking.

It's the biggest liquor store around, and it's a chain that at least has revealed itself with the name change a couple of years ago. There are lots of printed descriptions of everything, and I like to read, but I don't think anyone who works at this location wrote them. There are lots of people with earpieces working throughout the store, less so in the beer section. With the vast selection of beers (the number of singles Is the highlight), I would hope for some beer enthusiasm. I do always get friendly cashiers, and that's not nothing. My biggest peeve with this store is the age of so many beers. I saw a number of IPAs that expired half a year ago, so you really have to check everything. Prices are decent, but I'd rather rely on some of my local shops where it's nice to talk to people who care.

Tremendous selection of beers, much like the other Total Wine locations I have visited. Store is well organized with aisles of singles for those looking to bottle shop. Parking is more than adequate but the slope of the lot makes it a challenge to load your car. The only negative is that many of the singles are priced more than the traditional 20% upcharge per bottle. I would come back and shop again if I was in the Baltimore area.

The big draw to Total Wine is their selection and their prices. They have tons of domestic craft and tons of import craft and plenty of singles for a mixed six pack. Limited releases can be hit or miss, as sometimes they have them and keep them up front and sometimes they just put them on the shelf. If I am looking for something common and am in the area I stop here because the prices cannot be beat. They are kind of the Wal-Mart of adult beverage stores.

The one other thing I like is that you can order online and then go pick up your order. This is a way to see their prices and potentially order sale items.

This is the less classy version of the Laurel store.

The parking lot is quite cramped and getting in/out of the place is a little confusing. The inside of the store looks is very yellow and dingy. It feels like a bodega grocery store.

Quality is decent. They have a large selection compared to a lot of other places in MD.

Service is ok, but their specialties are definitely in spirits, wines, and cigars, not beer. However, they can usually point you to something if you have a name already, but not too much for finding new stuff.

They have a decent selection, especially with singles, which is great since they are one of the few places that does mix-sixs in MD.
