Pours out reddish brown with a tan head. Head retention is low and leaves no lacing.

The nose is malty and sweet. Picking up dark fruits such as raisins and plums. I also want to say blueberries. lightly toasted grains are also apparent In a breakfast cereal type aroma.

The taste definitely has the raisin sweetness up front with toasty grains and light coffee. The middle comes in with a slight bitterness that stays to the end so as for the beer not to become cloying.

The mouthfeel is full bodied and slightly syrupy. Carbonation feels low but seems to work ok.

Pours a dark brown color with nut brown edging. Head is grey and 1/2 finger.

Aromas of brown bread, crusts, slight nuttiness, toast, some smoke, with some fruity-yeasty notes.

Flavor is smokey with lots of dark breads and dark malts, some dark syrups, tasting a bit like a doppelbock at this point. Yeasty breadiness. Slight cocoa notes, with hints of raisin, olive, brown sugar, slight hop presence.

Feel is medium bodied with some prickly carbonation and a starchy feel overall.

Overall, an okay scotch ale. Probably not something I'd be fired up about returning to.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 4/1/2018. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red/brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, leather, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, leather, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, light dark fruit/pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that in great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an awesome Scotch ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mild bitter/drying finish. Impressively rich English malt complexity for the ABV; very well restrained fruity yeast, and solid earthy hop balance against sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Pours an effervescent scarlet-hued mahogany with sliver of tan head. Above average head retention & average lacing

S: Cakey, toasty

T: Follows the nose, brown sugar & dryness up front. Oaky dryness, a litttle toffee & toastyness as this warms. Finishes toasty & with woody dryness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation

A good take on the style, pretty easy to drink

Received 4 cans from Tavour.

L- Dark ruby red. Just like a Scotch Ale should be.

S-Hard yo explain. A little dank maybe but not in a bad way. But, smelled like a Scotch Ale.

T-Didn't blow me away. It's not very peaty, little acidic and no burn. My cans are only 7.0abv so they must have lowered it this year. Shame. Most Scotch Ales are usually 8+.

F-Great silkyness on the pallette. Smooooth. Low carbonation.

O-Not a bad beer but want seek it out like other Scotch ales I favor. Worth a try though.

I'm a big fan of scotch ale and excited to see another Texas brewery in the line up.

Poured from a can into a pint glass about 48 degrees. This beer looks great with clear deep ruby brown. Has a great toasted caramel nose but fell flat in the taste for me. I'm a big fan of Old Chub this just ain't quite OC.

Didn't pick up much on the nose other than alcohol. Taste is heavy on malts and a good amount of caramel. Considering the very low price tag, this one is fairly flavorful and doesn't have a bad abv. I will buy again.

This is a local inexpensive beer I've had many times including last night.

(L) It has a clear dark slightly reddish brown hue with an off white head that stays a long time.

(A) It has a nice nutty, smokey aroma with some chocolate.

(T) It has a taste of sweet malts. Caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, and maybe a little bit of coffee. It is a little bit on the mild side but overall it has a pleasant taste.

(F) Smooth and creamy. Pretty good.
