Pours deep amber/pale brown producing 1.5 fingers of frothy, tan, shortlived head that leaves only scattered motes of lace. Aroma is dark malts, roast with hints of bitter char, wheat, banana, sweetness & fruit in the background. Taste is dark malt, roast, banana, burnt brown sugar, caramel & faint chocolate, subtle wheat, a hint of cloves & thin hops. Starts roasted & sugary, finishes bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, moderate carbonation, clean but peppery in the mouth.

Poured from a bomber into chalice, dark brown with a nice tan head. No significant lacing. Toasted malt smell and taste. Hints of coffee and chocolate. Nice feel and warming taste. Enjoyable!

22 oz. bomber poured into little tulip

L: black up to no light, appears dark brown and clear around edges up to light, percolates a fantastic thick tan head of foam, about an inch and a quarter, no major sticking/lacing (second pour note -- MAJOR stick off the head ... just beautiful)

S: light sweet raisins, very faint, sour grain ... even as it warms only produces a little sweetness, maybe a bit of coffee

T: very roasted dark malt, almost burnt grain, astringent coffee with no sugar ... in fact, this one is quite earthy, the sweetness from the malt really holding back; more peaty/earthy than sweet even as it warms, with less fruit and more fruit rind flavor ... not necessarily bitter but definitely not very sweet; the long lingering aftertaste offers a bit of chocolate/baker's cocoa; slight alcohol taste/burn

F: light, even a bit soft but solid otherwise ... definitely an ale feel, a little slippery but not bad for a sipper

O: classic Rahrs in that it's very restrained, the sweeter flavors grounded by a solid earthy base beer. its a little too much like their winter warmer or like a scotch ale, even a bit of peat in there, so anybody looking for a big sweet weizenbock need not apply here. it's not an awful beer, but it doesn't compare to the great German imports in the style readily available for most of us.

Beers pours a very dark almost black brown. Brown head that is not very strong.

Aroma is of roast and chocolate. No hop aroma and no yeast esters. Also no wheat aroma which would be nice.

Taste is wonderful, creamy texture, roast and chocolate. No wheat taste but still very good.

mouthful is creamy, not as full bodied as I would like.

Overall a tasty beer. Not great for the style but if it is a good beer I could care less!
