Poured from 22 oz bottle into mug with a relatively strong pour. Amber-brown translucent color, very clear with a nice tan head that quickly leaves with no lacing.

Not much in the nose, as expected from a later, but some malty presence. Flavor is much more robust with rich malts, and some breadiness. Very enjoyable with an appropriate but slightly thin body.

Overall a great beer from Rahr.

Thanks to fratto for sharing this bottle at bu11zeye's 10,000th tasting.

The beer pours a brown color with an off-white head. The aroma has a lot of cocoa and hazelnuts, with some toffee and caramel malt also thrown in. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of toffee and caramel malt, with some nice cocoa and dry chocolate notes. There is also a little bit of brown sugar and a little bit of alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A Friday night and a bomber of malty beer? Yes please. Purchased at H E B it has a nice dark brown color with coffee head that quick falls. The smell is thick malt with hints of smoke. The taste is rich creamy syrupy goodness. Almost no hop flavor but slight bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is spot on. Overall great beer

Pours an effervescent scarlet/chestnut with tan head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Brown bread, figs, faint carob

T: A little molasses, brown bread, & some caramel up front. More brown bread, figs, leafy hops, dryness & a whisper of boozeyness once warm. Finishes fruity, a little dry with nice breadyness

MF: Kind of chewy, slight carbonation,

Nice take on the style, flavors & other factors measure up well

Appearance: Clear deep claret in color, with a moderate, cream-colored head, which, while robust, slowly fades to a dusting of foam on the surface. A thick veil of unbroken, fine-beaded lacing coats the glass walls.

Aroma: Notes of leather, sweet tobacco, raisins, plums and dark bread present in the aroma.

Taste: Opens with prominent notes of dark caramel, soon followed by hints of herbal hops. As the taste progresses, there is a little smoke and earth. Later in the taste, there is a tangy note of burnt caramel. Finishes with a lengthy earthy and smoky note.

Mouth feel: Soft and very full, quite pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Very pleasant and drinkable, though it sends me to a cool autumn evening, rather than a warm mid-spring.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-two ounce brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Poured into dimpled seidel.

Appearance: Nice small head, medium beige. Dark opaque amber brown.

Nose: A little sweet, cut with dark grain.

Taste: Caramel sweetness is balanced with bitter chocolate, dark bread, dark fruit desserts.

Mouth: Chewy but medium. Finish is a little dry.

Was pleasantly surprised by how well R&S pulled this off. This is some good doppelbock.
