Just got back from New Orleans. I dont think i paid less than 7 bucks for a drink the entire 4 days. In the quarter, the plus side was that 20 oz pours into plastic cups of Abita were cheaper than Bud Light Aluminum Pints.

I would also recommend the Avenue Pub on St Charles. One of the best beer and whiskey bars I have been to.

well at some point this will stop when enough people start doing what i do personally I won't get anything at a bar thats availible in a bottle the price sucks they don't pour right serve at the right temp or in the right glass and lots of times the service sucks I'll enjoy the beer more at home anyways.

9 bucks? maybe a tad high but seems reasonable to me. Here in DC a bottle of Corona will set you back 6, but Craft Pints $6-$9 .... Green Flash West Coast IPA $6 Duckrabbit Milk Stout $7 , Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA $9
(Molly Malones) FYI a Marguirita sets you back 8, 9.5 if you want Patron

I was at the same bar last night and the bartender did tell a different patron the size/price when that particular beer was ordered. As an aside, the managers there have said kegs of Nebraska are always crazy expensive. I was told recently their keg of Nebraska Brewing Fathead BW was more expensive than Founder's CBS (d'oh!)

$13 for some Avery Tweak last night. There was a big fuss in Houston, TX about Saint Arnolds BB2 being sold for 15 buck at some bars. 8 was a good average

Paid a total of ~$115 for a bottle of 2012 Cable Car and a bottle of 2007 Abyss at a bar the other night. Good news: Worth it.

Now THAT's a ripoff. Monk's Cafe in Philly charges $18. For Cantillon Classic Gueuze. I think Tilquin goes for $14 or $15. I know things are more expensive in NYC, but I don't think anyone, anywhere should EVER charge more than $20 for an 11.2/12/12.7 oz. bottle of something that is widely available. I don't mind paying bar markup of 200% or 300%, or more, for something that is difficult to find or of a past vintage, but I hate seeing prices at bars that are totally unjustified. Many places, including ones who really ought to know better, seem to have no shame in charging ridiculous prices for beer.

I mean, do be fair, I've seen Oude Tiliquin sold in beer stores from $7-12 in NYC. Huge range, but I've seen both those prices.

I really don't understand why you'd think $21 for a 375 of Tilquin Oude Gueuze is a complete ripoff at a nice bar in Manhattan. Maybe it's a bit high in general, but I think it's pretty reasonable for Manhattan. Remember, it's not the same as draft pricing.

Don't like the prices at bars? There's always the couch and the beer fridge.

Yup. My sticker shock comes when I see $6 Bud Lights and $7+ for standard craft (SA, SNPA, etc.). Too many times meeting friends at a bar and leaving after a couple beers and a $40+ tab. I will say the craft bars I've been to have generally clearly labeled price and volume so you know what you're getting. Still, you'd be hard pressed to find much in the sub $7-$8 range

If you have extreme sticker shock you should take up homebrewing.

You can brew a batch of beer for about the price of 2x$9 pours. You can brew even something like the rare stuff for about 3x$9 pours. Seriously. Ouch!

No criticism intended, just food for thought for the non homebrewing BA crowd.

I just went up to Portsmouth this past weekend. Bought an Old Rasputin and Mamma's Lil' Yellow Pils on draft, total was $7.38. How much do you think Old Rasputin alone would be on draft in Boston?

Plus the cost of equipment. And don't forget to add in at least minimum wage for your time if you're going to count pennies.

Hit up a Pub in Vegas back in January....$12 for a pint of Anchor Christmas Ale. I had to leave after that, couldn't stomach that cost.
