Well that was a great time!

Nice turnout, some great beers were cracked, found out Lynnhaven Pub serves up some tasty eats and we even managed to get some orders of business taken care of including the electing of some officials to try to bring some order to the chaos and we narrowed down our logo options to two, we'll be voting to pick the winner shortly. (we'll have the two finalists up on here and the Facebook group page soon)

Also, our newly elected group Historian should have the photos of the event up on our group Facebook page soon (for those without Facebook we'll also post them here)

Thanks again to Rob and the Lynnhaven Pub staff for hosting and for all of you that showed up!

Now to some business, we went over the new tier system since out group sizes have been getting progressively larger. If you have any questions or concerns let us know! We will hold Unlimited tastings once a month on the first Sunday of the month. Limited and Rares will be held inbetween Unlimited tastings and can take place any day, not just Sundays.

    Virginia Craft Beer Society
    Tasting Tier Information

The goal of this tiered tasting system is to allow a variety of different level beer enthusiasts to attend tastings without feeling intimated or overwhelmed.

Unlimited – Open to all. The venue for this level of tasting is almost always at a bar or beer store to accommodate the group's size. For this level, we ask each person bring at least 44oz of the same beer to the tasting so that there is enough for everyone who wants a pour. Homebrews are absolutely welcome here as well!

Limited– A maximum of 11 members on a first come, first serve basis may attend this level of tasting to ensure each person gets a decent pour (at least 2oz). Limited tastings will be primarily held at private residences of our members but can be held elsewhere if desired. At least 22oz of any beer not readily available in our area is required. If you are not sure about what to bring to this level please ask some of the other members attending the tasting for advice, or look at the signup sheet for the event to get an idea of the types of beers the other attendees are bringing.

Rare– A maximum of 5 members may attend this level tastings. This will be done on an invite basis only. These tastings will always take place at the private residence of one of our members. At least 22 ounces of a highly rated, very limited, retired and/or brewery only release beer is required to attend. As a group, the beers submitted for the tasting by potential attendees will be voted on for acceptance.

Plus One Policy– For the Unlimited tier, all are welcomed, if you have a friend or significant other who’d like to attend feel free to bring them. For the Limited and Rare tiers, plus ones are welcomed but are limited to sharing the pour that their hosts receives or they have an option of bringing a qualifying bottle to contribute the event to receive a full pour, or their host may stake them by providing a second bottle.

Dropped by Chow Restaurant and Bar in Norfolk, a new craft beer bar. They have a good selection of Belgian beers and other crafts. Nice place. I inquired about whether they could accommodate a future meeting for our group, and manager told me he'd take a look at their options. They're located at 1503 Colley, by the bridge leading to Larchmont. Same owners as A.W. Shucks and Tortilla West.

That sounds awesome, the more options for meeting places the better!

On a side note, we will be making a change shortly dropping the 44oz minimum requirement on beers brought to the next unlimited tasting. It's basically now just bring whatever you want and we'll adjust pours accordingly.

    Facebook to be updated shortly.

A good beer day. Just picked up the last bottle of Sucaba and the last bottle of Black Note at TW in Norfolk. But, I also was told that Great Lakes is coming to TW (at least the Norfolk location). Right now, a seasonal and a few others (Dortmunder, etc.) are on list. I mentioned Edmund Fitzgerald and Eliott Ness, and salespeep said she'd ping on distributor for those.
