I don't think the essay had any bearing on winning? I believe it was just required for entry and that the lottery was random. Mine wasn't anything special...I was just honest and basically said that I have enjoyed the HF beers that I've had and that I'd love to have the opportunity to try more and to share them with locals here in PA. I will definitely NOT be trading any part of the Collected Works package, either...it's a shame that anyone would enter with that as their motivation but I'm sure it was a common reason for entry.

I have a feeling the essay was a determining factor at some point, whether it be pre-drawing or post-drawing. I figured they'd pull names at random and if that person was too close in proximity or had a shitty essay, they just pick a new name. I can't imagine they'd read through all of them first, throw out the "bad" ones, and then draw names.

Did anyone from VT get in? I was wondering if locals would be disqualified. They didn't state that locals couldn't enter, they only discouraged it so it seems like everyone was eligible.

Now trying to figure out a nice sweet spot on the calender for my first visit this summer to hopefully still be able to bring home a nice variety.

congrats to all winners, condolences to all losers.

my friend and i got in (we're only taking up 1 membership and splitting all bottles) so ex off a membership's worth of potential bottles from the trading block. /hat tip to everyone whose whale bait value i just increased.

in other news, can't wait til another 9~10 hour trip to hill farmstead w/ my friend and his wife (i've been there once). VT beercation is the shit. doing it annually will be awesome.

edit: p.s. "my friend's wife" is also my friend. i hate language.

I feel like it had to have SOME bearing on the winning entries. Why else would they ask for one if it was completely random?

Just checked my spam filter and the only emails in there are offers to extend my manhood 2-4 inches. Such a shame because if I was picked in the HF lotto I would automatically have 6 more inches!

Would have brought me to 7. *kicks dirt* :slight_frown:

Would someone mind posting a pic of the crate? (In a meeting and don't have time to search.) Thanks.

i'm guessing it was part of the whole "take the time to do the entry right or be disqualified" social experiment sort of thing they talked about on twitter / facebook or wherever they talked about it. or maybe just to limit entries.

or, it had an impact. who knows?
