PM is a better value but kbs is a better beer. Just a lot more rich, and def has more "stuff" in it.

Am I the only one that has never found a KBS to be boozy, I've always found it to be one of the most balanced breakfast/coffee/bourbon stouts?

All I know is that the '08 KBS on nitro I had in 2010 was the greatest beer I've ever had so maybe I'm holding onto brand loyalty.

PM is way more boozy. KBS has a bigger mouthfeel which holds up to the bourbon. PM is good, but way thinner and way "boozey"

I think Peruvian Morning is quite a bit better than KBS in my opinion.

You might want to wait a few weeks and try a fresh 2013 KBS vs. a 2013 Peruvian Morning. You might find different results when trying to compare two fresh BBA coffee stouts vs. one with a full year on it. Believe me KBS is a completely different beer after a year. Also, I've always found Peruvian Morning to be thin bodied.

But while we're talking about 12oz coffee stouts the clear winner in my mind is Dark Horse BBPt5.

    I'd rather have BCBCS.

I totally agree, a fresh peruvian vs. a KBS with a year on it is not the best of comparisons. I will definitely do it again in a few weeks with a fresh KBS. That said, I have had KBS fresh (only 2012) and still prefer PM a bit.

I know BBPt5 has some coffee flavors, but is coffee actually used in the brewing/fermenting/aging process?

time for me to stop trolling.
PM was great. didn't get a chance to try last years batch. infected or not.

still though, wasn't all of this years CW brewers reserve series aged for a year versus 6 months like previous batches? Once KBS comes out, it'll be a true review with like characteristics.

Never had KBS, but based on the hype you would think it would have to be better. I've been quite satisfied with Peruvian Morning given that it's half the price and I don't have to kill myself to get some.

Does someone want to send me a PM for comparison? I really would like to answer your question.

    Nope, not a coffee stout.

PM is really good, especially this year's release (too boozy? Huh?), but KBS takes the cake. Really wish the CW stouts weren't so thin and carbed.

Looking forward to KBS day so I can answer this....I like PM a lot, though. I think the body is a little light but I think that is just me comparing it to BCS...

I think there is a serious problem with the basis for Peruvian Morning. The take Satin Solstice, add coffee, and barrel age. You cannot just take a beer that is great (Satin Solstice) and just add things to it. The beer doesnt hold up to barrel aging at all because the flavors are too prevelent throughout. The body of that beer does not support barrel aging. The coffee is way overpowering.

I drank this beer blinded over the weekend and upon the first sip, I could not stand it. There is no balance whatsoever, it is a hot mess, and aging wouldnt do anything for it. The only other comparable beer I had blinded was New Holland's Dragons Milk and it was far superior to PM.

I drank KBS and PM last year side by side at the Alchemy during Madison Beer Week and KBS was significantly superior in my opinion

You don't like it, no problem, but there is no "serious problem" with Peruvian in the eyes of a ton of people who love it, me included.

And not sure why people think every single big stout has to be thicker than Vermont Table Syrup. Sometimes it's fantastic to have a CW Bourbon Barrel Stout or Peruvian Morning or the like & actually have room for food afterwards.

Oh man I love CW BBS (and I am obsessed with their BBBW, but that is for another thread). CS BBS and New Holland Dragons Milk are not thick stouts at all and super enjoyable. The flavors on those two play together more nicely than Peruvian Morning in my opinion

Where did you see that the base beer for PM is Satin Solstice?

Ignoring all other outside influences and focusing on the beer and the beer along, KBS is a much better beer IMO. Peruvian Morning is a very good beer but it does not really come close to KBS.
