A snob will look down upon those who don't drink craft or who don't drink whichever beers he consider to be significant.

Geeks want to learn to brew, snobs want to become certified Cicerones.

    I'm a beer geek; you're a beer snob.

A beer geek does the thing that I do. A beer snob does the thing that I don't do.

What's actually snobby is the amount of people in here looking down on and judging the way other people enjoy their hobbies. I don't know if you guys are beer snobs, but you're definitely snobs. Worry a little more about yourself and a little less about everyone else.

To me a beer geek enjoys good beer, loves to talk about it and share their opinion but keeps an open mind to others observations as well. A snob isn't interested in others opinions because their mind is made up that something is a certain way and will never change.

I admit that I am and have been labeled a beer geek by my friends. Unless someone explicitly asks I generally don't provide much input when people are deciding what to drink. I do however flip the switch in one particular circumstance. When I'm at a bar and I hear someone giving a long winded explanation of a beer, history of the style, what to expect etc. to an audience AND THEY GET IT WRONG, I will usually correct the person with a few short and choice words and go right back to drinking. Beer snobs hate losing their credibility. Fight snobiness with snobiness. I will never ever forgot hearing an individual explaining what a Beire de Garde was with so much enthusiasm and confidence while basically saying what a Beire de Garde isn't. I don't know if he had no clue and wanted to appear as though he did or that he was mislead before. It seemed like the former.

Oh. For the record. I would love to be a certified cicerone if for nothing more than to learn to taste a beer in a 'different' way.

I am the only one of my friends that appreciated good craft beer. So I assume the roll of both the geek and the snob by default.

Exactly my thinking as well. You forgot Beer Hipsters. Those who only liked beers before they were popular or beers that they like ironically because they are sort of a joke.

Geeks want to know more about beer. Snobs want more people to know that they know about beer.

Beer geeks have no problem admitting they like a macro-brew and beer snobs judge beers before they've tried. Even after trying close to 1,000 different beers, Guinness is still high on my list. A beer snob would never admit to that.

Like Ivory Soap I am more like 99.44% pure shelf beer drinker. Maybe this post needs to be moved to the "You know you're an old BA when..."thread. :-)

Beer Geeks will never admit to the fact that they really are Beer Snobs (to a certain degree).

No wisdom on beer geeks/snobs, but English geeks are people who cringe at misspelling a word as intuitive as douchey. English snobs are those who correct them after they use that non-word thrice.
