I only had batch 1 so far, heard batch 2&3 are a bit less on Bourbon, but that remain to be seen!

Where do you get this information from? To my brewing knowledge, Peated Malt is infused with the smoke of peat moss and has relatively no caramelized sugars as compared to that of Caramel/Crystal malt.

Peat smoked malt - color of roughly 2-3 lovibond
    Caramel/Crystal malt - color varies generally from 10 - 120 lovibond

Caramel/Crystal malt lends character anywhere from sweet caramel and toffee all the way through dark fruit and plum depending on the level of caramelization.

Peat malt tends to be vary smokey, near iodine moss-like from my experience brewing with it.

Big Eddy Wee Heavy from Leinenkugel needs to be mentioned. Very very surprising for me back when I had it on tap. In my mind Backwoods Bastard is one the best beers being talked about in this thread but shouldn't count as a scotch ale. Its bourbon aged right? After that probably Traquair, Dirty, Robert, then Scotty for stuff I can get in my (Great lakes) region.

As my favorite hard liquor is Whiskey (Single Malt Scotch), this is a fun style!

Wee Heavy is one of my favorite styles!
Believe it or not Big Eddy's Wee Heavy by Lienenkugel is actually a really good example of a Wee Heavy!
BellHaven's Wee Heavy is also outstanding, it's a true Scottish Wee Heavy and may be a little difficult to find in some places.
Never aged one, but may have to consider it based on the comments in this thread!
Malty, peaty and smoky........ I love me some scotch!

I'll ask this here instead of creating an entire thread for it.

Is there any Scotch Ale that is aged in Maple Syrup Barrels? I can imagine the flavor and think it would be incredible.
Think Backwoods Bastard turned into Maple Tree Bastard or something.

I like Scotch Ales. I love Scotch Whiskey. But I don't see/taste any similarities. I am trying though!

Fat Woody by Silver City Brewery was hands down the best Scotch Ale I've ever had. Oh how I wish I could get more!
