A so called snob is usually a poser saying that Sierra Nevada isn't Craft because it's too easy to find. Whereas, I just want to try as much good beer as possible.

When going camping, beer snobs pack snifters; beer geeks take pint glasses.

Beer geeks take solo cups. Snobs take shit that can break and fuckup the campground with glass shards.

Great topic. Beer snobs have more money than brains. And I'm not really sure they love beer as I love beer. I think they're more concerned with impressing other beer drinkers then anything else. They are just as insufferable as their cousins the wine snobs. nickapalooza86 said it like it is:
Snobs chase whale after whale while leaving all the great beer on the shelves.... Beer lovers drink 99% shelf beer and 1% rare/whales!

I don't necessarily agree that there is a 100% of either one. Rather people are made up of different percentages of these two. I call myself 20% snob and 80% nerd more. I started yesterday morning with a hunahpu for breakfast then finished the day with a corona with lime at my sister-in-laws birthday party! Appreciate variety in beer, it is the way to go.

How do you figure out if a beer is a bad beer without trying it?

Beer geeks will tell you what they have in the basement, and then share it with you.

"I only drink beer from [obsure brewery]... You've probably never heard of it."

Though in all seriousness, I think "Geek" has more to do with a deep, fundamental love of something. Wanting to know more, experience more, and saturate yourself with something. A snob has more to do with disregard for something not being up to your standards. While more discerning tastes may come with being a beer geek, the difference between the two is on whether it's a positive attraction, or a negative revulsion, that drives the particular person more.

That's my two cents. Now toss me a beer, I'm wicked freakin' parched over here.
