Heady at $12/four pack is the best value in the beer world!

OK...can we agree that while it is a phenomenal beer that Pliny at $5 for 16 oz is far from "cheap"?

Belgian? It's a baltic porter; nothing Belgian in flavor at all to me. I think it's a strong example of the style.

Belgian flavour. It's just my preference. But I really, really hate that taste. Tbh I'm not quite sure if it's Candi sugar, Belgian malt, or Belgian yeasts. But it's disgusting.

    None
None of those are used in that beer. I think you are referring to the thick malty sweetness that can show in the style. To some it may even seem mildly sour-ish, sort of, I am guessing.

Most of the regularly priced beers I get are locally made (i.e., in Wisconsin) and in the 7.50-$9.00 per 6 pack range. I didn't set out to drink just Wisconsin beers, but my town is a pretty small market and Wisconsin beers are consistently available. I most frequently buy New Glarus but also drink sometimes get beers from Central Waters, Tyranena, Capital, O'so.

From time to time, I pick up marked down seasonal offerings (at the end of a season, when distributors are trying to make space, I guess). I think my best good beer for a low price was this one, from a couple summers ago: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/368/984 at $3.99 per 6 pack. I also just got a 4-pack of 16 ouncers of this one http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4426/80170 in the same sort of deal. I think the maibock was a much better beer, though. I ended up going back and getting a case of it, which I probably will not do with the saison, which I found to be undercarbonated, which may contribute to other negative perceptions (seems too sweet and not very spicy).

I guess, if you discount the other $12 a four-pack it's going to cost you to get from civilization to the back of beyond where it's only available at that price about 8 hours a week

Racer 5 costs at least $12 per six pack here. I'm not sure that's what he meant by cheap.

What's even better is Lagunitas Maximus for $8.99 a six pack.
    Better beer too, IMO.

Pretty much everything in Victory's year-round line is a great value. If you want to go cheaper than that, Saranac and Long Trail beers are nothing special, but certainly drinkable for about $20-25/case in SE Pennsylvania.

Agree with all the love for Hop Stoopid bombers. I haven't seen any other Lagunitas products on the east coast to rival that pricing.
