I don't want to post on the trade boards yet in part because its a wasteland, but also because this is more of a feeler and a pre-trade of sorts. But would it be likely to land shelf HF with limited shelf stuff from California? For instance, could I land a 6 bottle shipper of HF stuff for equal $4$ of Pliny(it's limited again :/), RR sours, Eclipses, Parabola, Sucaba, possibly some fresh Alpine?

Want to wait until the Parabola release if anything, but would this be a fair trade? I'm not asking for anything limited, just some good shelf offerings from them but don't know if I'm off or if I should deepen my cellar before trading for this

Finding the right HF trader can be a challenge (there aren't enough of them and they are often overloaded with gopickitupformebro requests from everyone under the sun)...but I think what you are offering is more than fair and should get it done pretty easily (especially since you aren't asking for the harder to get stuff). Good luck!

i have so far, had no issues trading for HF minus the super rare ones. one trader called me and said he was driving there, asked what i wanted. very cool. there are still great traders out there, and always, patience.

Thank you both of you guys for the advice. I traded for an Arthur and 2 Twilight of the Idols easily earlier this year but I wasnt sure if it was an anomaly or what. I just want maybe 3 growlers and 3 bottles. Something adding up $4$. Nothing super limited or rare. I wanna try one of their IPA's and Pale Ales. Hopefully I can get this done easily in April.

You might want to look for BAs in your area that are trekking out to HF for one of the events this spring/summer.

Best advice: check when the Phenomenology of Spirit is coming out. There will be a larger quantity of traders heading up then, since thats the next "release".

Possible, but seems unlikely. I've tried a few times with relatively more limited stuff and gotten crickets.

When parabola is released its not hard to find in east coast stores and the other bottles you mentioned are fairly easy to come by as well so you might have a little trouble unless someone is feeling particularly generous. I'm sure you've heard this but there really isn't shelf HF in that the only shelf these beers make it to are in the brewery itself, tucked away in a difficult to reach corner of Vermont.

My guess is that alpine stuff would be your best bet, particularly expo and other very limited bottles and growlers. Or brewery only stuff from Alesmith, perhaps. Good luck OP!

    1) there is no such thing as HF shelf; it's all brewery only,

    2) you should be able to easily trade for stuff like edward, everett, etc (ie more commonly on tap) growlers and-or bottles with good cali locals. just don't offer IPAs exclusively, because most VT BAs have caught on to the fact that trading for pale ales when you live in VT is kind of a dumb thing to do.

Although what you are offering is sound, you have to keep one thing in mind. For someone to get HF beer, they have to drive through inclement weather (this time of year) into the middle of nowhere Vermont and wait in line for hours (like the last time I went on a Saturday) to get 5 growler fills per trip through the line. It can be a bit of a tiresome trip and due to that, some people have a hard time giving up their precious growler fills.

This is true, I've not traded for a hoppy beer in a long, long time. IMO, nothing I've traded for has come close to matching Heady, Lawson's of HF as far as hoppy beers go.

The only real limitation you run into now is the 5-growler limit. If you make it up to HF on a Wed or Thursday, sometimes you can get more than 5. But, on busy days, 5 growlers is hard and fast. For me at least, if I make the trip to HF it's hard to then trade away a majority of the growlers I've purchased. So much of a time commitment to get them.

Your best bet will be to target "shelf" HF beers, like Florence, Arthur, Anna, Everett, etc. Check the retail listing on the HF page and go after whatever is available. Trying to trade for, say, 4 bottles and 1-2 growlers will be a lot easier than getting 3-4 growlers from someone.

    This.

That said, I go to HF once every month or 2, so if anyone wants to set something up, let me know. Next time i'll be there is the weekend of 4/20.

I've had good luck trading for growlers and "shelf" HF. I usually end up going $4$ with limited West Coast goodies. My latest endeavor happily involved Peche n Brett, Beatification, Framboise for a Cure etc $4$ for various growlers and non-Norma bottles.

I'd do a trade like this again in a heartbeat. Jussayin, VT-bound folks.
