I second Shilt. Well done Voodoo. Awesome bottle share with the brewers hanging out late night. Crazy pork cheek molestation. Warm tent. Grade Negro Voodoo Papi is the shit. What else could you ask for?

See... Hyping a release doesn't ONLY happen in the Midwest. I kid, I kid... Sounds like everyone had a good time. Glad it appears to have gone smoothly. Hope the same is true for the Blue Dog release.

Just got back from Meadville, and I just have to say that this release went 1000% better than I expected it to. Line didn't really get started until about 11 or so, bottle sharing was good fun (even though I may or may not have had too much to drink... :flushed:), and the bottle sale this morning was smooth sailing (even with the 90% of people who were too tired/lazy/drunk to read the instructions on the ticket, lol). The tent was a life-saver for the line, as I don't think I ever really felt super cold. Wish I could have forced myself to stay longer today, but I was (and still am) struggling to keep my eyes open.

Cheers to Kurt and the rest of the staff for nailing it on their first attempt! I will definitely be back for future releases!

Well people.... what a success for voodoo and everyone that showed up! I'm still drunk and my head hurts after this event. But this was a memory that I wont ever forget and thanks to voodoo for it and most importantly the people I drank my face off with.... kudos to you!

This release was a triumph of organization. They planned things out really well and, weather aside, it went off quite beautifully. And the special taps today were super-tasty. Cheers all!

And if I remember I'll try to upload the pig destroyer picture. Tasty piggy.

Did the line start at 11pm last night? How many people were in line at 10am? Any problem with line cutters? Cheers!

The line maxed out at like 170-180, so everyone or close to everyone got everything but the Laird's Black Magick. No line cutters, they handed out numbered bracelets. The pace at which they were processing orders inside was ridiculously slow. They probably still haven't filled the orders for the last people. The people at the end of the line probably will end up having spent nearly as much time there as the people that lined up overnight and were out of there by 11:15 a.m.

I considered trying to stay for the second sale, but was just too tired to want to. I assume one did (or will) happen?

had a great time last night. Everything was set up perfectly including heaters in the tent. The bottle share was a ton of fun especially.

I took some pictures of the bar Friday night and some stuff in between. I will get them up shortly after I recover.

in the bad news category, it appears someone stole my Mother of All Storms while in the tent. Poor form.

It was great seeing a lot of familiar faces, sharing some beer with a few new ones, and having a great time today!

HUGE props to Voodoo for what I understand was their first release. Its pretty clear there was a TON of work that went into making this a success. While I waited in line someone pointed Matt (brewmaster) out and I saw him throughout the day directing employees, taking out trash, clearing off ice cycles off the roof, working behind the bar...... guy was all over the place doing it all. They overall did a really great job putting this together. I'll just highlight a few points that I thought made this an awesome day (I'm sure I'll miss a few) and a couple things they could do to improve next time.

    What worked/what was awesome:
    • I can't believe they put up that tent with heaters for people that lined up overnight. Then cleared it out in the morning for the BBQ pig they had someone cook for everyone. Awesome!
    • The tent helped cut down on line cutters. There were roped off lines in the tent. I only know of one instance where someone tried to cut and was called out for it. Awesome!
    • Passing out numbered wrist bands at 7:30 AM to those that had been in line since the wee hours the night before. Also helped cut down on line cutters. Awesome!
    • Having a complete system in place outside and inside for the purchase of your allotment. Awesome!
    • Getting the street closed down in front of the brewery for this event. Awesome!
What they could do different next time:
    • Have more than 1 person ringing out orders for over 200 people. And have more than 1 person passing out the allocations. There should be at least 4 or 5 people ringing and 4 or 5 people getting allocations. Having them work in pairs (1 to collect the money and 1 to get the order) will speed things up considerably. This shouldn't take hours to complete for everyone.
    • Make it cash only. This will speed things up.
    • Call 2-3 numbers/calendar dates at a time. This will also speed things up.
    • The write up for the release made it sound like we could buy bottles of Big Black Voodoo Daddy when we bought our allocations. Most people found out you had to buy those from a bartender when getting their allocations and didn't want to bother trying to get them at that point. I did ask a bartender about buying regular bottles when I saw someone else buying some at the bar. He pointed at the beer list at the wall saying the info was there at the bottom. Behind where all those people were standing so no one could see it!
    • Hold the event when its warmer outside (out of their control partially)
I mean, the day as a whole went smooth and everyone seemed to have a great time. Some more than others by the looks of it when I left. I'd easily go back to Voodoo for a release. I had a great time. Cheers!

we would like to sincerely thank everyone one of you who came out over the weekend and took part in the barrel room collection release festivities. we hope that you had a good time and enjoy the beer. being our first release, we know there are a lot of things we need to improve upon for the next one. we have already committed to purchasing at least one more additional terminal to process everyone faster next time around. cheers!
