    Any Triple Bock experiences recently?

Traded for and opened a '94 tonight and we all really enjoyed it. Plums, grape, maple, soy. Better than when I had a '97 a couple years ago.

This beer seems like a rite of passage into the craft beer world for me. You gotta respect the former holder of the strongest beer in the world regardless. Whether you love or hate it, you have to try it.

Opened a '97 last Friday with a group - just my way of saying 'thank you' for all the great beers that they opened that night.

Tasted like salty rotten meat. It left a film on the glasses that will likely survive a couple runs through the dishwasher.

I finally had my experience with this evil thing last week, a customer brought me a 1995 vintage after we discussed bad beers one night.

I know there are still good bottles out there, but mine was not one of those. The cap was already leaking when I opened it and my hands became stained like iodine from taking the foil off, I had to wash them three times to get it all off. The cork broke apart upon opening and before I even had it all out the smell hit me and made me gag. I had to push the cork into the bottle, creating an even more powerful odor as the stuff was unleashed.

Pouring into a glass, it looked like motor oil, it stuck to the side of the glass like syrup with zero head, and smelled even more horrific now that it had plenty of air. The first sip was straight chocolate, which baffled me, but following that all I got was a combo of burnt chocolate, rotted fig, prune, and tons of soy. Maybe even some vomit too. I nearly threw up twice just drinking my small portion, the other two participants took a tiny swig and poured theirs.

Dumping the bottle yielded a TON of sludge, chunks, film, and all kinds of weird objects. The store smelled so bad we had to open the doors to let it air out.

It was an experience to remember for sure, and I'm glad I finally got to try it, but I'm weary of any more. The guy still has two bottles and I've found a few more people willing to try it, but I don't know if I can set up something like that, I may loose a few friends over it.

Not so much, no. I guess I can't be too mad, he warned me numerous times.

As my co-worker put it : "The ooze coming out of the bottle looked like Satan's diarrhea."

I actually love this beer. I've only had the 94' version, but I think it's extremely complex and opens a whole world of thoughts. I've had it multiple times, and actually recently had it three times within a week. That, however, kicked my craving for probably the next year; as it's extremely, for lack of a better term, extreme.

I really hate the bad rep this beer gets though. It might just be the 95' and the 97', but the 94' is outstanding in my opinion. I don't get soy sauce at all. In fact, I really have to dig deep to really discover why people even come to that conclusion. I get it, but only very slightly. To me, there's so many other aromas and flavors going on.
I guess I'm blessed with a case and a half of it still left cellaring on it's side in my basement.
