What beer are you drinking now? #165

In this economy, not higher ed, unfortunately. I love teaching and I love the research area I've chosen, but goddamn it's a terrible environment for work in higher ed. I actually went to a keynote in a day-long symposium on the state of academic labor in higher ed last week, and it's tough man.

That was the final straw to be honest. I already had tenure in my current position. I wanted to go further with research and my advisers were pushing it. I was married already and the idea of leaving a steady job for a position where there was a glut of candidates just didn't make sense though. Luckily I've worked myself into a nice position teaching only upper level classes at the high school level and supplement that with adjunct positions. At least I still get to talk shop with other people.

Dayman. In theory, coffee and ipa should never be used in the same sentence. But of course leave it to Stone (and a couple of their friends) to brew a beer that perfectly marries the two. Although I should expect nothing less from the creators of Sublimely-Self Righteous, my favorite black ipa, awesomely combining roastiness with juicy tropical fruits (which is kinda what Dayman does, though not as heavy on the roast.)

 

Amen, brother. I'm in a not entirely dissimilar position. Though, I'm not sure where I'll find a high school looking for an archaeology teacher, but I guess there's always hope :-)

 

Seriously though, if you're ever in Syracuse we should get a beer. Sounds like we'd have a lot to talk about.
