What's the general attitude of craft brewers concerning competition with other craft breweries?

I'd say Sierra Nevada and Deschutes (among others I'm sure) fit squarely into this group.

All I'm trying to point out is that not all business is done with the same agenda in mind. People have it in their heads that all business is formed with the ultimate goal of having the giant Scrooge McDuck treasure swimming room and that everybody needs (insert something to do with business here) to have a successful business.

All that is required for a successful business is that it accomplishes what it is intended to do.

The purchasing power of beer is still in the late adopters stage. it used to be a laggard stage where innovation was scary and price was king. That isn't gone obvously, and that's why the cross-over market has hung around so long. consumers buying on price are just now starting to broaden horizons, and eventually the industry will shift further away from the flagship crafts. Bu ti think that shift is a very slow one indeed

if what it is intended to do is give jelly beans away, then by golly you can be really successfuly at giving people jelly beans. But that makes you a charity, a nice guy, someone with a lot of jelly beans; but a business, no.

Not only does that have practically nothing to do with the thread, is most likely a mis-quoting of Sam, and needlessly bashes Boston Beer Company (the actual name, not "boston brewing")...

Your nickname is BrewDogRocks and your avatar image is a pic of two of the most pointless, foolish, poorly crafted, and downright ridiculous beers the craft industry has ever seen.

    Wow.

If I form a corporation, brew beer, drink beer, hang out with my buddies, pull a modest salary, have no investors, and don't post a fucking dime of profit, is that a charity?

And if turning a profit isn't part of that goal, the business will fail. Wether it's cooking food, brewing beer, or making jelly beans for people to give away.

    You're arguing pointless semantics.

    Your salary is profit.

Or- correct, if you post no profits, then you're a charity. Which means you aren't brewing beer.

    Stop.

Brewers/Breweries don't go into business just because they like to make beer. They do it to make money. I believe craft brewers do compete but in a friendly way. We are seeing more and more collaborations these days and brewers sharing beers with each other at events and festivals. They all know this is a business though and they need to be on par with each other or even more.

It's a non-profit. You are the investor, your buddies are your stakeholders. it's as simple as that.

if a brewery, makes great beer, but builds itself under an unsustainable business model that can't survive than it's a shame we all missed out

I think it's actually stunt drivers that donut to make money. Brewers brew beer.

Every business has the intent to profit from its labors. That's not to say that the beginnings our all business start that way. It can start as a hobby, and develop into a business plan.

There's no need to point out the difference between Joe's Fruit stand and Walmart. We're all smart enough folk here to gather what is obvious.

I think we're losing sight of the real problem in this thread.
