They have something similar to this in Austin, but they charge per hour and you have to supply your own beer for the pedaling part. So it ended up being a pretty expensive novelty that leaves you sweaty.

$20 seems pretty reasonable for the Portland version, but no booze on board.

Anyone know if there's a spot downtown where I could pick up a 6 or 12 bottle shipper? I want to mail some beer back before I leave on Saturday. I'm staying in SW Downtown.

Portland wine storage, real close to hotd.

Excellent, thanks! I'm actually headed there tomorrow so that's perfect.

If you don't need it before Saturday, I can let you have one of my shippers gratis. However, I won't be back in town until then, so unless your flight is that evening, this probably won't work for you.

Totally agree Sokol Blosser. One of my favorites. St. Innocent would be my 2nd choice.

Just wanted to drop a thanks for this thread. Just got back from a 4 day 3 night Portland trip, and used this thread as a reference guide. Over in the US Pacific forum, we get our fair share of "where to go" threads (especially San Diego) Beerfly/places usually works for me when I travel, but sometimes it helps to see it consolidated in a thread like it us here, it certainly was helpful to me and my wife. Anyhow, had a great time, thanks for the help. Cheers.

**This is a long post/itinerary, my apologies in advance.

Thanks to everyone for making and participating in this thread, it has helped map out my upcoming trip. I'm looking for any final suggestions/edits or if I'm totally off base with any of these plans. My girlfriend and I are coming from Florida next week from Tuesday-Saturday and plan on the following:

    We're staying at Hotel Fifty.

Tuesday- Get in, acclimate, hit up bar/dinner.
Wednesday - Rent bikes, do the cascade, hotd, Bailey's, Deschutes, Upright, HUB crawl.
Thursday- Car rental, wine country: Erath, Domaine Drouhin, Sokal Blosser. Maybe some hiking.
Friday - Brewcycle tour (I know it's easy to hit all the breweries they offer ourselves, this is more for atmosphere/something to do). Hit any missed breweries, pick up bottles for taking home.

Food: Pok Pok, Country Cat, Screen Door for brunch, VooDoo Doughnuts, any and every food truck I can find.

Activities: I could use some non-drinking suggestions but was planning Japanese/Chinese gardens, hiking, wine country.

Also, I'm really planning on using the public transportation to get around and I'm assuming it's really intuitive to use, but if anybody has any tips on that, I'd be really thankful.

Does this seem feasible? Anything I missed? For my drinking I'm going off BA ratings/all the thread about Portland beer suggestions I've read but once again if you have a must-try I'm all ears.

This was a good list 5 years ago. Check portlandfood.org for reviews of new/exciting restaurants. PS: Blue Star Donuts >>>>>> Voodoo x1000

You'll find good hiking in the Columbia River Gorge and a day full of sightseeing as well. You can get away with great hikes <30 mins. from town.

TriMet Trip Planner. Bookmark it on your phone.

Pretty feasible, although if you eat at every food cart you find you will have some problems.

I would highly recommend hitting the Commons as well.
Wine: highly highly recommend Soter! And for food in dundee Paulee.

Public transit: get the pdx bus app

If you are around on Saturday the psu farmers market is great and lunch at verde cocina is very good.

This wasn't much on my radar when I went out last week but 4 different people recommended it to me throughout the week so we eventually stopped in on Friday afternoon for a couple flights. Really cool facility, delicious beer and easy to locate via bus.

Holy crap, this thread is a godsend. Will be using those pub crawl maps very soon! Thank you all.

That sounds like fun, but you might want to rent trikes! And don't forget your helmet.

On a more serious note, I agree about Voodoo. It's almost an obligatory thing to do when visiting Portland, but yeah, the donuts aren't that good and you'll waste at least an hour (especially if you go to the one downtown). If you want to wait in line an hour for sweets, go to Salt & Straw.

If you haven't decided on a bar for Tuesday, I highly recommend APEX, especially if it's nice out.

If you want to avoid the lines at the expense of the "atmosphere" of the downtown location, check out Voodoo Donuts Too on 15th and Davis. It's less than 1.5 miles from Hair of the Dog and Cascade, so it could easily be worked into the SE/NE pub crawl.

 And if you need a cup of joe to wash down those donuts (before heading over to HOTD for a fresh snifter of blue dot), Stumptown has just moved their annex location to 100 SE Salmon, which is just a couple blocks from the tasting room. Talk about a "Golden Triangle."

But for even better coffee, especially espresso, just go next door to hair of the dog and visit Water Avenue coffee.
Or on your way south hit up Coava on grand.

Looks like a good time, but one problem. Upright is only open Friday-Sunday, limited hours. If you want to go there, and you should, make sure they are open.

Another quick donut recommendation = Rocking Frog Cafe at Belmont & 25th...fried to order, and they're $1 each or 6 for $5. Perfect to squeeze in after the Belmont Station/Fred Meyer Hawthorne/Zupan's Belmont beer run trifecta.
