Thanks, Don. I have slipped into Slabtown a few times to see some local sludge/stoner/doom outfits I enjoy (Doomsower! \m/) and was happy to see RPM and Hop Venom on tap. Can't beat the five buck cover.

Yeah I love going to Slabtown. Can always sip on a Black Butte Porter or RPM and watch a punk/indie/metal show and enjoy vegan gyros! and play some pinball in between. Or go to the movie nights which are cool.

Am I better off buying bottles to take home at the breweries or bottle shops? I'm mainly talking about HoTD, Deschutes, Cascade, if they even sell bottles to go.

Buy a $15 Adam growler at HotD. And Cascade does not bottle most of their onsite sour lineup. Deschutes usually offers some solid X taps, brewery only, that you can growler fill. For the most part, your better bottle options lay with Belmont Station, Beer Mongers and other local bottle shops.

Agreed...you get precisely zero discount buying direct from the breweries, and sometimes you can even save a couple bucks buying from the bottle shops. Particularly BeerMongers.

In fact, Pelican's Imperial ale was about a buck a bottle higher, at the Pac City brewery where it was born, than John's Marketplace in PDX (where it was trucked).

Obligatory "visit Powell's books" suggestion. I'd hop in your rental and drive out to the Gorge, stop and do some hiking on the way, and visit the breweries in Hood River/White Salmon WA.

Tampa BA flying into Portland on Sunday (will be here until the 25th). I plan on hitting up most of the recommendations in this thread. If any BAs want to meet up, I can bring Huna, Capricho, Gates of Hell, 7venth Sun, Black Note, Swamphead BA Roosevelt, and more. BM me if there is anything in particular anyone is looking for. I'm interested in bringing home a Bottleworks XIV and some Fantasia.

You looking to trade or get together for a bottle share (or both)? I'd like to try Gates of Hell and BA Roosevelt, but both seem like the sort of thing best shared with a group.

I'm more looking to trade, honestly. I dont have a ton of time in Portland and I want to see the city! And I want to bring back some great Portland beer for my friends in Florida. Mainly looking for Bottleworks XIV and Fantasia, but I'm open to offers. Just shoot me a BM and we can work something out. I have multiples of Gates of hell, Capricho, Hunahpu, BA 7venth Sun offerings, and Black Note.

this thread has been super helpful. I'd add that anyone super into sours and planning to hit up Cascade should try to go on a Tuesday for the 6pm sour barrel tapping. I randomly got there a few minutes before just to try some sours, and was pretty stoked to be there for that, it was neat

This thread is awesome. I came here to ask what I'm missing this weekend. Plan was to hit HOTD, Commons, Cascade, Upright, Lucky Lab and Laurelwood Public house. This thread seems to have it all. I guess the only thing left to ask is if there's anything special going on this weekend brewery related. I'll be in town with a small group for a friend's birthday and the Mumford and Sons concert.

Belmont Station is having a couple different events that might interest you. I'll just reprint them from the newsletter.

THURSDAY MAY 23 PELICAN MEET THE BREWER & TASTING. 5 - 8PM Come taste the full bottled lineup from this award-winning Pacific City brewery, including Tsunami Stout, IPA, Silverspot IPA, Doryman's Dark, Kiwanda Cream, MacPelican, and the seasonal Winema Wit. Kiwanda Cream Ale and an aged keg of Danny's Black Gold Belgian style Imperial Stout (a collaboration with Ninkasi) on draft in the Biercafe. Brewer Derek Bondy will be here to give you all the details on each beer!

SATURDAY MAY 25 3 - 6PM DEAF NIGHT OUT. Join Guest brewer Ken Fisher and Fort George Brewing Co. for the tapping of Grateful Deaf Zythos Black IPA. Ken is a local ledgend and worked on breweries from all over the world like Elland Brewing, Birra del Borgo, Fox Brewing, and Jopen Brewing. The Grateful Deaf Black IPA has been hopped to the high heavens with heaps of delicious Zythos hops that were graciously donated by Hopunion. The beer remains crisp and not overly roasty. Although it has a light body, there is plenty of flavor to be had in this beer with notes of caramel, dark malt and liquorish. So please join Ken fisher and Fort Goerge for a bitter celebration of the dark sorts.

I just went to Apex and Beermongers on my last night here, and Beermongers had a bunch of 375ml Cantillion Classic Gueuze for $8.35 each.

Awesome trip, thanks again for the advice! When I got in Monday night I was ready to move here, the rain ever since tempered that though.

One place I would recommend to others that hasn't been mentioned is Ground Kontrol if you like pinball or 80s arcade games. I didn't expect much beer-wise there but was pleasantly surprise they had Boneyard on draft

Figured I would top this thread by adding Tin Bucket, for anyone who is actually reading all the way through this thread. It's new, so they're still working out the kinks, but they'll fill any size growler. Maybe helpful for out of towners wanting to haul back fresh beer at reasonable prices.
