you really have an algorithm? i figured you took a bunch of index cards on a big table and arranged them ensuring that you get the best match possible (as you should as the organizer) - lol. didn't realize you were a techie in real life.

The algorithm is for determining overall rankings

There is no algorithm for assigning targets (persay)

By overall rankings do you mean an aggregated score for each beer based on all the data? Is the process of matching where each beer is sent done manually then?

No, there are formulas and such that assist in the process

I see. If you don't mind, I'm very interested to see how this is done at some point after the BIF is over

A lot of people are quite interested... the process however is quite complex and won't be made public... the reason for this is that I don't want people trying to "game" the system in later rounds...

    No worries, that's totally understandable!

Actually... there is a spreadsheet full of stuff like this:
    =((55-COUNTIF(K25:BM25, ))/55)
    =RANK(R26, Scores)
    =max(AY2:AY58)+IF(sum(AY2:AY58)>1,1,0)

just to name a few :stuck_out_tongue:

42% submitted... And 15 people haven't even touched their rankings!! So anxious :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel the same way Cam! How's the "trading" looking? Are those "big" top 5-10 changing hands so far?

some of us work with this stuff offline and consult our tasting groups before submitting

What is the tie breaker? Say I rank something as #1 and person 2 ranks the same beer as #1 and we both get matched to it. Is there a tie breaker in place like Wants/Gots ratio of the beer(s) we submitted or something else?

Its not quite that simple... and, definitely not going to go into too much detail on how beers are matched as I don't want people trying to "game the system". Suffice it to say you'll get your highest ranked beer that the system will allow

    Cam uses another sophisticated tool:

    Much more complicated than that:
