Wonder how long before someone creates the "No Extras" Trader List?

Sometimes all I send is extras.

Extras are often the best part of trades...on both sides. They are what keep me trading.

I believe abecall98 was one of those kids that would try to get you to throw a rock and that bee hive while he stood 100ft away.

Also, I've done about 20 trades or so and I had one trade where we exchanged what styles we didn't like so we knew what extras to send and he sent none. Meh, I was disappointed for about 2 seconds and forgot about it.

I'm a "2012-er" but I've always included extras except for the one IP trade I did. So far, some of my extras I sent out were 3F, J.W. Lees Vintage Harvest Ale, Heady. I usually consider a trade a win, only if I feel my trading partner gets joy in seeing a nice extra they didn't expect. I only have 4 mail trades under my belt, but all of them sent nice extras I enjoyed too, and were all very pleasant experiences.

It is what it is. Despite my join date, I think I'm a "2012er" as I didn't start posting with serious frequency or trading until 2012. I've thrown extras into every trade I've ever shipped out (IPs I have not) and got zilch back until yesterday (when I not only got my #1 want in a trade, but a bunch of great extras too.. TheLostGringo is good people). FWIW, everyone's been apologetic when they've gotten extras from me and not included something, and I've never been mad or even annoyed about it - just find it interesting.

But whatever, beer karma all gets made up in the end. I am currently being repetitively porchcrushed by a guy I'm trusteeing for, with absolutely no provocation... This is the most fun part of this site.

Fellow 2012er who has always sent out extras, even if I can only do something small. This blanket 2012-bashing is embarrassingly lazy. Bash shitty traders, not an entire years' worth of BAs.

At this point I basically only trade with established partners so I havent experienced this at all.

If you say, "extras are extra so I don't have to include them" you're probably a cheapskate. (Not directed at you cg123, but at a general 'you'.)

Extras are extra is used when people complain about either not getting enough extras compared to what they sent or that the extras they've received aren't rare enough. (Note that I think you have every right to be insulted by receiving stale and out of date beer. That's also a cheapskate move.)

I try to minimize the "butthurt" feelings by stating that each party put together a box with a value within a specified trading price range (i.e $50-$60 worth of beer). That way, everything above the original bottle(s) is considered an extra.

I've always gotten extras, always given extras, unless it was agreed to for some reason that we wouldn't. Personally I'd rather get nothing than some random shelf beer I've had and don't like, or an old IPA, which hasn't happened to me recently but has before.

The beers that you consider "random shelf beers" might be coveted by someone else and vice-versa. Since I like to try a lot of different beers from around the country that aren't distributed in SoCal, I specifically ask for them. A lot of my trades involve several 12 oz single bottles from random breweries all over the place.

...Sure, hence why I specified "that I've had before and didn't like".

The simple solution is to clarify whether extras are to be included in a trade before anybody ships. Done and done

I usually send homebrew as an extra if I'm gonna send anything at all. You probably shouldn't trade with me.

Probably the biggest factor in my lack of trading lately. The extras are the best part of opening e box
