I had a great time at Beer Under Glass; highlights for me were: GI Flanders Red, Solemn Oath Whisper Kisses, 18th Street Deal With the Devil, Revolution Crystal Hero, GI Sophie Paradisi.

Garfield Park Conservatory is such an amazing venue I will definitely be back next year.

What's not cheap? The Delilah event is $20. Except the link for tickets from ccbw site goes to their fbook page, and I can't find anywhere that has tickets for this. Another website fail!

"Arms getting tired bro? Tell us again how much you hated BUG because it wasn't your private what's tasting."

I'd quote your real post, but that horrible thread was finally deleted.

The event is free to attend, $20 for 20 tickets which you can purchase as much as you like all night. As I understand, beer ticket costs vary wildly.

I had general admission, stopped for 3 beers, and stopped at 2 food stations and still got Galactic Double Daisy Cutter, so it certainly wasn't VIP only. It was very good, but I give a slight edge to MariLime Law as I had them back to back. The Goose Flanders Red was a top 3 beer for me. I'm not big on sours, but this was just tasty. Dark Traveler from Goose was good, and Sofie Paradisi delivered. Mathias from Haymarket was smooth and tasty. The strawberry sour from Destihl was nice. I enjoyed Ronin from 3 Floyd's as something different. Abyss on draft was great. I really thought Anger from Greenbush was a smooth Black IPA. I'll look to buy some of that. Famine & Whisper Kisses from Solemn Oath were beers I'd get again. Municipal by Ale Syndicate was my unexpected beer of the night. I'd buy that IPA again in a heartbeat. Those were my highlights. I'm leaving off the lowlights to keep things positive on a Friday morning.

Yes. Free to get in, and $20 gets you 20 tickets. The pours are small, 2 ounces, maybe 1.5. The more desirable beers (Cantillons, 3F, etc) are two tickets. The big boys (aged Lou Pepes, 3F Oude Gueuze from the 90's) are three or four tickets. So you are often going to be spending $2 or $4 dollars for a taste. I think I spent $60 last year and wasn't buzzed.

That's not so say it isn't a great event. But it isn't like Zwanze Day at WLVL, with heartier pours and lots of food provided.

I found my list from last year. Unfortunately, no prices, but it'll give you an idea of what they had:

At their barrel aged event, most stuff was 3 or 4 tickets for a 1-2 oz pour. Some (like the Imperial Brown Goose) were 5. So, those 20 tickets can go fast, and those can be some expensive pours.

I second this. I certainly got a good buzz, but it took about $80 to do it. And those were higher ABV beers than the geuzes and lambics by far. So if you're looking to get drunk, probably not the event for you. But if you want to try a bunch of great stuff, it's certainly not to be missed.

That being said, I'm going to have to miss it...

i'm planning on going to delilah's, but when i went last year i spent 20 bucks and didn't get a buzz. not that that was my goal. it was really nice to be able to try a lot of those beers at once.

BUG was awesome, again, as usual. Far and away my favorite event of CCBW every year. The venue is ridiculous, the beers & food are excellent, and the crowd is generally ful of great folks. I will be back again next year no question.

One sort of under-the-radar highlight for me was the Piece/Half Acre collab 'Cold & Wet' - super tasty & refreshing at only 4.5%... great stuff...

Still annoyed that I missed getting the BUG tickets this year. It sounds like it was as much fun as last year's event. Were any of the smaller/new Chicago breweries there? Like Begyle, Spiteful, Dry Hop, Atlas, etc?

Begyle, Spiteful, and Atlas were there. Begyle had some really great beers, including a collab with Cleetus Friedman called, I believe, Comb the Desert. It was a Schwarzbier, and was probably my favorite beer of the evening.

Crystal Hero IPA is an awesome beer, I had a pour on Wednesday when I was at the Gravedigger Billy release but it must have tapped at BUG before we got over there. I thought the vintage Straight Jacket tasted like caramel flavored nail polish remover, and I wasn't alone in that opinion, different palates and what not.

The highlight for me was multiple pours of the BA Acrimonius. Just incredible. I'm just a bit disappointed when compared to what came to this event last year, especially since a lot of what was on tap is readily available elsewhere. Still had a good time overall at an amazing venue.

This just isn't even true. It was still available around 7 PM as I standing right by their table when it kicked.

This was my first time going to Beer Under Glass and I had a great time. The highlight of the event had to be the venue itself as it was amazing. Beer highlights were both 18th street offerings (especially Hunter), Solemn Oaths Whisper Kisses, Deschutes Abyss, and GI Flanders Red. Talked with the guys at the Perennial Artisan Ales booth near the end of the event- a couple of approachable guys who were more than happy to answer all of our inane brewing questions.

If you aren't at Local Option right now, you are missing out on the best CCBW has to offer, if not some of the best beer available
period. It kind of sucks at Half Acres anniversary party is tonight, I don't want to leave

I saw the final draft list this afternoon around 1:30 when I was there for lunch. I'm on my way back right now. They put together an insane lineup for this event.
